Passbook Has Proved To Be Very Popular Among Retailers And Developers



Passbook was one of the main features added to iOS 6, enabling companies to deliver loyalty cards, gift cards, coupons, tickets and other items to a centralized digital wallet for the iPad touch and iPhone.

Although the feature is handy addition that utilizes time and location-based awareness to help you use Passbook passes when needed, it is not a true digital wallet based on hardware technologies such as field communications (NFC).

Google Maps App For iOS Downloaded Over 10 Million Times



Jeff Huber reported in a Google+ blog post that Google Maps for iOS was downloaded over 10 million times within two days after the app appeared in the App Store.

Google Maps was keenly anticipated by users who were not satisfied with Apple’s built-in Maps app over its rampant errors. Criticism over Apple’s mapping solution led to public apology from Tim Cook and the restructing of iOS software team.

Brighcover CEO Shares His Views On Apple TV



Today Brighcover CEO Jeremy Allaire shared with AllThingsD his thoughts about what the Apple television may be. There have been many mockups and rumors before, but Allaire posted several new mockups and speculate on one possible route Apple may follow with the television. Allaire said that rather than just launching a 46- and 60-inch TV sets, Apple would also release a companion device.

Apple may sell 13 million TV sets



Last week, Tim Cook revealed that the television was an area of intense "interest" for Apple. Today, analyst Katy Huberty from Morgan Stanley shared the results of the survey.

"11% of respondents said they would be "extremely interested" in buying an Apple-branded TV set, which translates into 13 million units in the U.S. alone. 36% said they would be "somewhat interested," which could translate into another 43 million units.

Apple Could Acquire TomTom To Speed Up Improvements To Maps App



According to a report from Rabobank analyst Hans Slob, one of Apple’s key partners providing map data in the new Map app TomTom could be acquired by Apple. Today Bloomberg noted that Slob said there is 30% chance that Apple seeks to purchase TomTom in order to make quicker improvements to its new Maps app.

Observations show that the Mac Pro is the first product with "made in the USA" label



In an interview with Brian Williams Tim Cook revealed that Apple is planning to bring back some of the Mac products in the United States. Cook has not identified which of the Mac lines would be part of the $ 100 million investment, but, judging by observations, it will be probably the Mac Pro.

Apple is expanding its energy resources in the data center of North Carolina.



The Charlotte Observer reports that Apple is planning to double the size of its energy resources at its data center in Maiden, North Carolina to 10 megawatts.

"Fifty fuel cells adjacent to its $1 billion data center in Maiden are expected to be operating by January, Apple said in papers filed with the N.C. Utilities Commission. It will be fueled by “directed biogas” in which cleaned methane gas from a landfill is injected into a natural gas pipeline. [...]

Samsung Working to Keep Design Dispute Separate from Component Contracts

Several Samsung senior executives were reportedly holding an emergency meeting yesterday to discuss Samsung's next moves in the case. Samsung CEO Kwon Oh-hyun not present at that meeting trying to save the company’s component supply contracts with Apple. Kwon's primary responsibility is to oversee the company's component business, a division that maintains a close relationship with Apple.

Shipments Of iPad mini And New iMac Will Be Constrained Until 2013



According to DigiTimes, shipments of the iMac and iPad mini are expected to be limited in 2012 due to display production issues.

Reportedly, the panels for the iPad mini have seen low yield rates. As a result, Apple may fall short of 10 million target and reach only 6 million mark for the shipments of the iPad mini in the fourth quarter.
