Apple occupies 45% of the U.S. smartphone market



The NPD Group's Mobile Phone Track reported that Apple occupied 45% of the U.S. smartphone market in 2013. Over the year 2013 the market increased by 21%, with the total figure of 121 million smartphones sold. In Q4 the growth slowed down and were only 10% higher than those of the previous year.

Burberry runaway filmed with iPhone 5s [video]



Apple presents a new video called 'On the Runway With iPhone 5s'. This time Cupertino company boasts the possibilities of iPhone 5s camera by filming the Burberry's September 16th runway show held in London. Apple has already had some dealing with the fashion company. In October Burberry CEO Angela Ahrendts was hired to work as Senior Vice President of Retail and Online Stores in Apple.

It is the second video showed by Apple to feature the possibilities of iPhone 5s camera. The Mac 30-anniversary video was also filmed with the new iPhone.

Tim Cook to visit Turkish president



Apple CEO Tim Cook is visiting Turkey on his mini world tour. The meeting with Turkish President Abdullah Gümeet will be held on Tuesday, February 4. The information was published on president's official website.

Naturally, the topics to be discussed are kept secret, although there are some speculations. It is believed that the main issue will be Turkey's "FATIH Project", which implies replacement of traditional teaching tools with innovative equipment like Apple's iPad.

iOS Engineering Vice President, Henri Lamiraux, Retired from Apple



Apple’s top iOS Engineering Vice President - Henri Lamiraux - retired from Apple a couple of weeks ago. This happened just after the iOS 7.0.3 release. Hawaiian Airlines will boast 1,500 iPad Minis



Starting with September 1st, Hawaiian Airlines will be using 1,500 iPad minis for inflight entertainment on its Boeing 767-300 aircraft.

Bluebox Avionics as been contacted by the airline to introduce the tablets on 14 B767 aircraft serving 14 routes between Hawai‘i and the U.S. Mainland, Asia and South Pacific. So all current portable entertainment systems of Hawaiian Airlines’ B767 routes will be replaced by the iPad minis.

“Hawaiian Airlines’ signature on-board hospitality is already very popular with travelers, but we wanted to go even further to ensure our customers’ travel experience is more enjoyable,” said Blaine Miyasato, Hawaiian Airlines vice president of product development. “With the help of Bluebox Avionics, we’re building on our acclaimed inflight service by incorporating the latest in popular consumer tech products to enhance our in-flight entertainment options.”

Pegatron revenue upsurges thanks to iPhone production



According to Reuters, Apple supplier Pegatron is likely to enjoy a 50 percent increase in Q3 revenue.  The supplier reaches the figure despite the stable decline of its PC business continuing. The sector responsible for the revenue upsuge is the iPhone. The following announcement was made by Pegatron after the company did not live up o analyst's expectations concerning revenue in Q2.

“We expect revenue in the non-computing segment to grow by 40 to 50 percent in Q3 due to new consumer products. Q4 will also be higher,” said company CEO and President Jason Cheng in an investor conference.

Pegatron is most likely to be responsible for production of the low-budget iPhone 5C – the plastic iPhone. Moreover, Digitimes rumored that it may turn to be the second iPhone 5S supplier, although Foxconn is responsible for the major production. Both handsets are expected to be announced by Apple on 10th September.

ITC bans older Samsung devices



The International Trade Commission ruled that some older Samsung devices will receive an import ban for infringing on Apple patents.

The import band can be eliminated within 60 days by President's veto, so President Obama has possibility to veto the ban as he did with Apple's one. Among Samsung devices that infringe the patent of  scrolling behavior and headphone jacks, there are many launched in 2010/2011, such as the Galaxy S 4G, Fascinate, Captivate, Galaxy Tab, and Galaxy Tab 10.1.

Bob Mansfield will be developing new products for Apple



It was reported earlier this week that Apple executive Bob Mansfield has given up his management duties at Apple. He is rumored to have focused on 'special projects', concerning development of new products for Cupertino company. So his responsibilities will be taken over by other executives.

Dan Riccio will be responsible for Apple's antenna design team. Moreover, he will still lead the department of  Mac, iPhone, iPad and iPod engineering. Dan Riccio was promoted to lead Apple's hardware engineering teams when Bob Mansfield first retired last year.

Jeff Williams will acquire the job of managing Apple's special projects engineering teams. He is the Senior Vice President for Operations and has bee working with Tim Cook for years now.  Though it is Mansfield who will focus on Apple's newest and most innovative designs. Thus he will not be distracted with management issues any longer.

ITC ban on Older iPhones, iPads was vetoed



According to WSJ, the Obama Administration has vetoed an ITC ban on the sale of older iPhones and iPads. The law would have prohibited selling of such models as AT&T iPhone 4 and iPad 2.

U.S. Trade Representative Michael Froman made the decision to veto the ban on the Apple devices, citing concerns about patent holders gaining "undue leverage." He said Samsung could continue to pursue its patent rights through the courts. The action marked the first time since 1987 that a presidential administration had vetoed a product ban ordered by the U.S. International Trade Commission.

Since now the problem has risen of allowing companies to use  standard essential patents to block rival products.
