Apple Begins Prepping Yerba Buena Center for iPhone 5 Media Event
Apple has begun preparing the Yerba Buena Center for its iPhone 5 introduction. The entrance of the Center is wrapped with colorful banners, suggesting that new multicolored iPods will be part of the event. The new banners evoke the imagery the company used to launch new iPods in 2010.
Previously-Thought NFC Chip in iPhone 5 is Earpiece Speaker
The latest pictures of the rumored next-generation iPhone published on Thursday by Sonny Dickson offer a look at a mysterious internal component located next to the earpiece. Some analysts suggested that the unknown component could be the NFC chip. But last week, the well-connected Jim Dalrymple of The Loop reported that Apple's next iPhone will not feature NFC technology, sometimes known as radio frequency identification, or RFID.

Apple Will Discontinue iPhone 3GS And Introduce 8GB iPhone 4S
According to a
“The new update will mean that the 8GB version of the iPhone 4 will be the entry-level iPhone, probably given away free on £20 per month contracts, as the 3GS is currently”.
The Telegraph also notes that iPhone 5 will come in three different capacities, probably the same 64 GB/32 GB/16 GB line seen with the iPhone 4S.
Moving the iPhone 4 into the position that is currently occupied by the iPhone 3GS would allow more carriers to offer a free iPhone, because the iPhone 4 is sold in both CDMA and GSM versions while the iPhone 3GS is only offered in GSM version.
The iPhone 3GS would probably be most missed by customers who want to buy contract-free smartphones. Currently Apple sells contract-free, unlocked iPhone 3GS for $375 in the U.S. and at higher prices in other countries such as $455 in China. If the company elected to continue selling the device along with its three other iPhone models, it would have to cut the price even further.
High Resolution and 3D Interactive Mockup of Apple's Rumored 'iPad Mini'
CiccareseDesign has created a new set of renderings and even a 3D model of the 7.85-inch "iPad mini" setting up for an October debut. The design is based on the numerous rumors, part leaks, and work by case manufacturers who are trying to determine what the device will look like in order to have their products ready for sale as soon as possible. As far as you know, the 7.85-inch iPad offers 66% of the surface area of the current 9.7-inch iPad and almost 40% more surface area than competing 7-inch tablets.
Apple Unsuccessfully Tried to Purchase Exclusive Access to TSMC Chip
The outcome of the high-stakes Apple v. Samsung patent trial forced Apple to do their best to find new component suppliers. Bloomberg reports now that Apple and Qualcomm in an attempt to diversify their mobile processor supply chain each put forth investment bids topping $1 billion to secure exclusive access to chip supplies from Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC). TSMC denied separate investment bids from Apple and Qualcomm.

Video Compares Black and White iPhone 5 Glass Panels to iPhone 4S
SmartPhoneMedic has posted a video comparing leaked black and white 'iPhone 5' glass panels to the iPhone 4S.
As you can see, the iPhone 5 front glass panel is slightly taller than the current iPhone 4/4S. However, it still remains the same width. Compared to the Samsung Galaxy S III, the iPhone 5 will have a smaller display area in both width and height. We're not sure why Apple decided to only make it taller and not wider, but I'm sure Mr. Cook will explain it at the upcoming Apple Event. The other major component is the 8-pin dock connector. It does look like Apple has moved away from their traditional 30-pin dock connector to a new, and much smaller, 8-pin dock connector. It is still unknown if they will provide some type of adapter for those out there with 30-pin dock connector accessories. It will be very interesting to see how Apple handles this issue.
