Adobe Testing MacBook Air-Optimized Version of Flash Player

mac book

Adobe’s CEO revealed this week that Abode is currently testing Flash Player optimized for Apple’s new MacBook. It’s not a secret that new laptops are shipping without Flash preinstalled due to battery problem. The new MacBook Air became Apple's first Mac to ship without Flash Player.  The battery life of the small notebook took a significant hit when browsing the Web with Flash Player. Adobe is looking to improve battery life on the MacBook Air with a new custom build of Adobe Flash. The company believes that the key to conserving battery life lies in hardware acceleration. “When we have access to hardware acceleration, we've proven that Flash has equal or better performance on every platform,” – Adobe claims.

Apple kills AirPlay on iPhone 3G [Video]

doesnt-airplay1

Multiple developers and users testing out the iOS 4.2 betas claim that the AirPlay functionality was definitely removed from Apple’s iPhone 3G. AirPlay is gone from the golden master version of iOS 4.2. In fact, the AirPlay did work on the iPhone 3G at the previous betas. There are no any reasonable causes why the AirPlay was cut from the GM version.  Perhaps, Apple is trying to get users to upgrade to their latest iPhone model or, on the other hand, it is just an issue in the GM seed. May be the AirPlay functionality will return in iOS 4.2 public release. Anyway, there will undoubtedly be a jailbreak that can re-enable it.

iOS 4.2 reportedly delayed, iPad WiFi issues to blame

ios-4.2

Apple may reportedly delay the release of iOS 4.2 until November 16th. The delay is probably coursed by a serious Wi-Fi issue. Many users of the Golden Master version of 4.2 reported that a WiFi connection could be established by their devices but after establishing connection they were unable to do anything on the Internet. “This will delay the release for at least a week while it is tested, but may not get public release until the following week as it appears Apple will be testing it vigorously. iOS 4.2 should, however, come out before Thanksgiving (November 25)", - the MacStories’ source claimed.

snow leopard

Three days after releasing Mac OS X 10.6.5 Build 10H571, Apple seeded Build 10H574 to developers. That just means that the company continues to work under Mac OS X 10.6.5 to prepare for a public release. The public release of Mac OS X 10.6.5 is expected to come nearly simultaneously with a release of iOS 4.2, because the 10.6.5 will enable AirPrint wireless printing compatibility between iOS devices and Macs. No details of the changes made in the latest build have yet been revealed.

Adobe: Apple is Inciting Negative Campaigning Against Flash

apple vs adobe

Last week Ars Technica test found out that the MacBook Airs battery life was reduced by up to two hours when Flash was installed. But the Adobe CTO Kevin Lynch believes that it is impossible.  In his interview to Fast Company he claimed that reports of Adobe Flash causing reduced battery life are a “false argument.”

“When you're displaying content, any technology will use more power to display, versus not displaying content. If you used HTML5, for example, to display advertisements, that would use as much or more processing power than what Flash uses”, -  Lynch explained.

Moreover, he blamed Apple in inciting and condoning a negative campaign against Flash. Earlier this year, Jobs spoke out against Flash in an open letter, labeling it unfit for the modern era of low-power devices. And as a result, the MacBook Airs and Macs are shipped now without Flash pre-installed.

Apple became the fourth global mobile phone vendor

market share

According to a new IDC report last quarter sales made Apple number four in the list of global mobile phone vendors. The first places are still occupied by Nokia, Samsung and LG Electronics respectively. Apple has been always perceived as a top smartphone vendor, but this is the first quarter when Apple really cracked the top-5 list of global mobile phone vendors.

It is the first time for 6 years when IDC's Worldwide Quarterly Mobile Phone Tracker has excluded Sony Ericsson from the top-5 list. The report reveals that over the last quarter the iPhone has appeared in 17 more countries, which can explain its explosive sales.
