httpvh://www.youtube.com/watch?v=izNoF1SWtSg

CNet has recently reported that soon Apple will unveil a new high-speed connection technology for its devices, which is based on Intel's Light Peak technology. The latter should appear in products during the first half of 2011, according to Intel. But though Apple's new technology will be based on Intel's Light Peak, it was reported that Apple will brand it under its own name.

Light Peak allows to transfer information with 10 Gbps, which is almost three times faster than USB 3.0 (3.2 Gbps) and more than 10 times faster than Firewire 800 (800 Mbps). In practice it will allow to copy a full-length Blu-Ray movie in approximately 30 seconds.

Apple to Eliminate Retail Box Software Inventory

no retail boxes

MacRumors has reported that Apple is planning to eliminate boxed software, which only takes up retail space that could be used for higher profit items such as iPad or iPhone accessories. Apple is going to distribute their software through the Mac App Store, strongly believing that the future of software sales will be digital distribution. But how Apple will deal with software which is not available through the Mac App Store? It's not clear now. Though, the idea of total elimination of boxed software also sounds unreal. Perhaps Apple will replace such software with USB software installers.  It may make more sense; nevertheless, such replacement doesn’t appear to be quick.

MacBook Pros getting updated soon

new macbook pro

Several sources claim that the stock for the 15-inch and 17-inch MacBook Pros is beginning to run low. Some resellers have suggested that Apple might be planning to update the product line.

The 17″ MacBook Pro generally appears to be in the shortest supply at the moment, with Amazon quoting a shipment window of 1-2 months for the base Core i5 model. For its part, Apple continues to show “within 24-hour” availability of all MacBook Pro models in its online stores, suggesting that the company may be prioritizing remaining stock to serve its customers directly.

The updated MacBook Pros might receive Intel’s Sandy Bridge processors, internal Solid State Drives, thinner design and implemented USB 3.0 or Intel’s Light Peak.
