New App Store restrictions blocked Sony eBookstore

According to The New York Times, Apple has forbidden all developers including Sony to sell content or provide access to purchases outside its iOS App Store.

After that Apple rejected a Sony Reader iPhone application, as it allowed users to buy and read electronic books from the Sony Reader Store. So now all in-app purchases must go through Apple, president of Sony's digital reading division Steve Haber told.

Soviet-era films being sold illegally on iTunes

The BBC reports that some Soviet-era films are being sold illegally through the App Store. Films available via iTunes include such as Gentlemen of Fortune, Assa, The Diamond Arm, Kin-dza-dza and Cheburashka. The copyright holders confirmed that they didn’t give their concern for their films to be sold in the App Store.

5 million next-gen iPads will be shipped in the Q1 of 2011

Concord Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has recently released another report, where he states that the next-gen iPad won't get new resolution this year.

"The most important reason why iPad 2 won’t have retinal display is yield rate of panel making. At this point, making high resolution and bright IPS/FFS panel is not easy and the production volume and cost couldn’t meet Apple’s requirements."

New Angry Birds game coming in March

Angry Birds is obviously one of the most popular games in App Store. And now its funs are waiting for the next version of their favorite game. The developer of the game, RovioMobile, has announced that new version of Angry Birds will come to the App Store in March. It’s based on the upcoming animated film Rio. Rio is a film about rare birds which are kidnapped by other birds and is about them escaping to freedom. The film Rio will be released on April 15th but the new game will be available earlier, in March.

Apple Seeds Mac OS X 10.6.7 Build 10J846 to Developers

Yesterday Apple seeded the second beta of Mac OS X 10.6.7, known as Build 10J846, to developers. Apple has reportedly asked developers to concentrate on AirPort, Bonjour, SMB and Graphics Drivers and added Mac App Store as an area of focus for developers. Mac App Store changes weren’t mentioned in the first developer build seeded last Thursday.  Apple also issued a new beta of Mac OS X 10.6.7 Server, which includes one known issue, in which clients may fail to NetBoot from NetRestore image of 10.6.6 created with Mac OS X Server 10.6.6.

10 Billionth App Winner Hung Up On Apple

Gail Davis won the Apple’s 10 billionth app countdown. But her reaction was a little surprising. Then Apple called her to say that she had won a $10, 000 iTunes Gift Card, she just hung up the phone. As she explained she thought that it was a prank call. But thankfully Apple’s employee recalled her, so, the happy winner was able to claim her prize. The 10billionth application became a free game Paper Glider which was downloaded by Davis' daughters.

App Store gets a Twitter

Apple created an official Twitter account for the App Store, appropriately named @appstore. Apple now owns that domain.  Within just a few hours, the account landed its 50,000th follower and continues to grow rapidly. The new App Store account lets Twitter users subscribe to regular update tweets posted by the company. With help of the new account Apple promises to promote new apps, and exclusive App offers which direct users to the web version of the iTunes App Store, which links to the app within iTunes for further review or to download it.

App Store: 10 Billion Apps Downloaded

Recently Apple launched the “10 Billion App Countdown”.  10 billion apps have been downloaded from the App Store for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. The competition Apple launched to celebrate the new milestone has ended. Someone downloaded the 10 billionth application is going to win a $10,000 iTunes Gift Card from Apple. As of this moment, we don’t know who won the contest. Apple plans to announce the winner at a later time. Apple is now projected towards the next milestones, 15 billion apps and 20 billion apps.

Apple became the world's largest mobile phone vendor by revenue

After Apple has unveiled its financial results for the first quarter of 2011 it became obvious that in terms of revenue the company replaced Nokia and became the largest mobile phone maker in the world.

Recently Nokia reported that its Devices & Services division earned $9.7 billion, but that includes global sales of all the company's handheld mobile computers, including smartphones, tablets and non-smart feature phones, and also a broad range of Ovi-branded services that include email, music and app store.

Playboy Magazine coming to iPad uncensored

Hugh Hefner, Playboy founder, announced on Twitter today that the full catalog of Playboy Magazine, from its very first issue in 1953 to its latest one, is coming to the iPad this March. Moreover it will be uncensored. The magazine delivery may be related to Apple's recent plans to open up subscription billing for magazine and newspaper content. Such debut also may mean that Apple has relaxed or removed their current restriction against nudity. Though, it’s doubtful that Apple allows mature content to overflow App Store. The company is likely to be testing a new section. There are no further details on the iPad version of the magazine.

Apple Launches '10 Billion App Countdown' Contest

Yesterday Apple launched a new 10 Billion App Countdown promotion to celebrate the upcoming milestone. Nearly 10 billion apps have been downloaded from the App Store, which was launched in 2008. In January 2010, App Store downloads topped 3 billion; during Summer 2010, Apple reached the 5 billion milestone. Now, it’s time to get to the 10 billion figure. Apple will award the user who downloads the 10 billionth app a $10,000 iTunes gift card which is also valid for the Mac App Store. As noted in the official rules for the contest, users can make up to 25 contest entries per day; entrants have to be at least 13 years of age and resident in a country where the App Store is available.

Apple forbids newspapers to allow free iPad access for print subscribers

This Friday Dutch website called deVolkskrant published a report, where it was revealed that Apple will soon bring in new rules for publishers. According to it they won't be able to offer free access via iPad for their paid print subscribers anymore. The changes will be made because in this way publishers currently avoid to pay Apple a 30% cut for an access through its device.

Another Dutch site nrc.nl also revealed the date when all the new restrictions will take effect - it will be after April 1.

Apps from Mac App Store were cracked hours after its launch

In a few hours after Apple opened its Mac App Store ‘pirates’ found the way to install and run paid apps for free.

According to John Gruber’s blog Daring Fireball, the vulnerability appears to be in those apps that do not follow app validation advice given by Apple.
