Court Denies Samsung Request To See iPhone 5 and iPad 3

Apple-Samsung

Let us remind you some facts about the legal battle between Apple and Samsung.  Samsung filed the countersuit in response to the Apple’s suit, where demanded Apple hand over the iPhone 5 and iPad 3 or their newest prototypes to investigate them and to avoid misunderstanding in future. Though, Judge denied Samsung’s request, having explained that “Apple’s request for expedited discovery was far more justified and far less prejudicial”. Apple required early access to all Samsung’s new devices.

The judge made a lot of effort in her 11-page order to explain that Samsung is entitled to “parity” but its motion was overreaching in this case. Instead, it may be necessary for the court to evaluate such a motion against the background of the iPhone 5 (as far as any Samsung phones are concerned) and the iPad 3 (as far as any Samsung tablet computers are concerned), whenever Apple is in a position to present those products.

New iPhone is coming this September

iPhone-5-4S-mockup

Bloomberg says Apple is planning to release a new faster iPhone this September.

The device will include the A5 processor, the more powerful chip that Apple added to the iPad 2 earlier this year, along with an 8-megapixel camera, up from the 5-megapixel model in the iPhone 4, said the people, who asked not to be identified because the details aren’t public. Apple is also testing a new version of the iPad that has a higher resolution screen, similar to the one now used in the iPhone 4, one of the people said.

Earlier today, another rumor source BGR reported that the new iPhone would be released even earlier, in late August. They have also mentioned that new iPhone 4S or iPhone 5 would feature a radical new design.

MacBook Airs will make up half of Apple’s labtops in 2011

laptopCNET writes on a comment made by analyst Doug Freedman at Gleacher & Company, who says that it is estimated that 48% of all Apple’s laptops will be of MacBook Air family:

“How big is this opportunity? In the 4-year lifespan of [Apple's] iconic MacBook Air, units sold as a percentage of its total notebook supply was 8 percent in 2008, 9 percent in 2009, and 17 percent in 2010 to an estimated 48 percent in 2011,” he stated.

Advanced Intel Sandy Bridge processors designed for ultraportable laptops (chips can “turbo” or overlock to much higher speeds) were priced today:

Core i7-2637M: 1.7 GHz (turbos to 2.8GHz), 2 cores, 17 watts, 4MB cache, priced at $289

Core i7-2677M: 1.8 GHz (turbos to 2.9GHz), 2 cores 17 watts, 4MB cache, priced at $317

Core i5-2557M: 1.7 GHz (turbos to 2.7GHz), 2 cores 17 watts, 3MB cache, priced at $250

Possibly more important that these chips are based on Intel’s newish fab process that will make power efficiency much higher. But the drawback is that they will utilize Intel’s slower chipset that doesn’t make use of Nvidia’s 3xx series graphics.

New MacBook Airs are expected within a month.

Legal hardware unlock for iPhone 4 released

geveyultra

Gevey has released a new hardware unlock for iPhone 4 called Gevey Ultra SIM.

The main difference compared to the old Gevey unlock method is that you don't have to dial 112. dialing 112/911 and hanging up is illegal in most countries, now this problem is gone.

Gevey Ultra works with

  • iOS 4.0, 4.1, 4.2.1, 4.3, 4.3.1, 4.3.2, 4.3.3
  • Basebands 01.59, 02.10, 03.10.01, 04.10, 04.10.01

Some sources claim that Gevey Ultra works even with the latest iOS 5 beta 1.

If you have 01.59 baseband you can still use free software ultrasn0w unlock. For everything else - just buy Gevey Ultra for $35 here.

The installation is simple, but requires jailbreak. Good luck iOS 4.3.3 is jailbreakable. See our jailbreak instructions here (Mac OS) and here (Windows).

Take a look at the Gevey Ultra video demo:

New MacBook Airs To Feature Black Case Option

maс airs

In recent weeks more and more reports have appeared, claiming that Apple is putting final touches to the new MacBook Airs that are expected to be released late June or July. MacRumors has a guess that  the high-end models may come with a black option for the aluminium case.

Over the past week, we’ve received several anonymous tips claiming that at least some models of the next-generation MacBook Air will be be available with a black finish, different from the aluminum case used on the current MacBook Air and most of Apple’s other Macs. The most specific of the claims suggests that a black anodized aluminum case would be available on a top-end MacBook Air model, in much the same way as Apple once offered a high-end black MacBook on top of the standard white offerings.

As for the black colour, Apple already offered black versions of the MacBook a few years. MacRumors also reports that their source close to Apple sent them e-mail, where he said that the  black MacBooks were indeed produced, but didn’t get Steve Jobs’ approval in the end.

Mac mini and Mac Pro Refresh In August

mac-pro

CNET reports that Apple is going to launched revamped Mac Pro and Mac mini in late July or early August. Details, as usual, are unclear, though, according to the previous 9to5Mac reports, the devices may get a smaller, rackmountable design that can hold multiple solid-state-drives

My sources tell me ALL NEW Next-Gen Mac Pros and Mac Minis will launch either end of July first week of August.

The Mac mini models that are now short on supply, will reportedly receive the Thunderbolt technology and Sandy Bridge processor, the same as implemented in  the MacBook Pro and iMac families launched earlier this year. Both devices will have preinstalled Lion software.

August more likely, Sandy Bridge and Thunderbolt on both. NO details for specs or configurations given. DO NOT BUY! WAIT for the new Macs!

iCloud to Auto-Resolve Sync Conflicts

syncconflict

John Gruber at Daring Fireball claims that Apple’s iCloud service will be able to solve conflicts with data automatically by determining the correct option. Now MobileMe forces users to solve conflicts themselves. On The Talk Show with Dan Benjamin he’s shared his opinion on how iCloud will deal with sync conflicts:

In iCloud, I believe you will never be presented with [a sync conflict] dialog, no matter how much has changed in one of the instances while it was "offline". The server-side iCloud, when there seemingly is a conflict, will make a decision and it will decide which one is the best (in Apple's terms the "truth"). That is what Steve Jobs means when he says "The Truth is in the Cloud." iTunes will decide which one is right and that's it. iCloud will push that right one to any device that has this account that has a different version.

Comex Found Out How To Improve Jailbreak Time

comexreply

Today Comex revealed in his Twitter that he found a way to drastically decrease the time it takes to jailbreak and learned how to utilize unionfs and thus get rid of the Cydia's 'Reorganizing FileSystem' process.

New approach will reportedly be used in his next jailbreak for iPad 2.

If you want to know more details on Comex's new approach, check his long tweet.

Earlier Musclenerd stated that it won't be necessary to move Apple apps anywhere if unionfs will be used. That also means that apps will keep their entitlements and thus simplify the sandboxing problem.

Apple Stores May Get New Products Next Wednesday

whatisthat

9to5Mac reports Apple will be holding yet another overnight at their retail stores next Tuesday. It is also known that some stores already got new displays and unknown boxes.

Now that may mean nothing. It is probably that Apple just wants to bring and setup new displays in their stores because of its partnership with Teach for America Foundation. Besides that, lately weekly overnights became the usual thing for Apple.

On the other side Apple may prepare for unveiling new MacBook Airs. Or AirPort Extremes. Or Time Capsules. Or Mac minis. Or Mac Pros.
