Jailbreak for iPhone 4S and iPad 2 Has Been Released
The 'Dream Team' of hackers have just released their untethered jailbreak for the iPhone 4S and the iPad 2. The utility is called Absinthe.
The initial release is currently for Mac OS X only but Windows is coming soon!

Sn0wBreeze updated to 2.9.1
Popular jailbreak utility Sn0wbreeze was updated to version 2.9.1. Several issues were fixed, including iPad Baseband for iPhone 3G and several PAM issues.
You can download Sn0wBreeze 2.9.1 here.
New version 2.9 adds support for untethered iOS 5.0.1 jailbreak as well as support for all firmwares supported by previous versions of sn0wbreeze. You can read more about version 2.9 here.

Using this tutorial you will be able to untether jailbreak iOS 5.0.1 running on iPhone 3GS. Pwnagetool will also preserve baseband version if you need carrier unlock. If you have updated the baseband to version 06.15, you can use this tutorial to update to iOS 5.0.1. This tutorial uses PwnageTool 5.0.1 for Mac OS X.

RedSn0w 0.9.10b4 released: includes fixes for iBooks and launchctl
iPhone Dev Team have just released a new version of RedSn0w 0.9.10b4. It includes a fixes for iBooks and launchctl. As always, you can simply run the new redns0w over your current jailbreak, just make sure to uncheck Cydia. To fix iBooks and launchctl errors you can also simply install new version of Corona from Cydia.
iPhone Dev-Team Releases PwnageTool 5.0.1 for iOS 5.0.1
The iPhone Dev-Team has updated PwnageTool with support for the iOS 5.0.1 untethered jailbreak. PwnageTool lets you easily create a custom ipsw for upgrading to iOS 5.0.1.
Unlockers can use custim firmware to preserve baseband version and unlock with ultrasn0w or gevey. Depending on your device you can also configure the ipsw with boot logos and Cydia packages.
PwnageTool 5.0.1 supports iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPad 1, Apple TV 2G, iPod Touch 3G, iPod Touch 4G.

UPDATE: Apple released iOS 5.1 that is only tethered jailbreakable with redsn0w. Apple has stopped signing iOS 5.0.1, so you can NOT restore to 5.0.1 any more (both original and custom), unless you have saved your SHSH keys for 5.0.1. If you are on 5.0.1 you can jailbreak with redsn0w.

Untethered Jailbreak for Apple TV running iOS 4.4.4 Released
Seas0nPass has been updated to perform an untethered jailbreak of the Apple TV running iOS 4.4.4.
Happy New Year! Today we are happy to release an updated version of Seas0nPass that supports an untethered jailbreak of the latest 4.4.4 (iOS 5.0.1) AppleTV software. Big thanks goes to the world famous @pod2g for doing the lion's share of the work to make this new version possible.
Most of the apps are working just fine:
New versions of RedSn0w and Corona released
New version of iOs 5.0.1 untethered jailbreak utility was released - RedSn0w 0.9.10b3. New version fixes issues with launchctl and MobileSubstrate that many users experienced. The same fixes were integrated to Corona package.
So if you had any problems with Cydia apps or faced errors while jailbreaking - update Corona or rerun RedSn0w (remember to de-select the “Install Cydia” option if it’s already installed).

iOS 5 untethered jailbreak will be released a bit later
Untethered jailbreak for iOS 5.0.1 has already been released. While there is no reason not to update to iOS 5.0.1, there might be some users who would like to stay on iOS 5 and have untethered jailbreak there too.
Famous hacker Joshua Hill (nickname p0sixninja) has recently posted via twitter that an untethered jailbreak for iOS 5 will be released soon after testing.

How to install untethered iOS 5.0.1 jailbreak
Untethered jailbreak is available for iOS 5.0.1 firmware on iPhone3GS, iPhone4, iPhone4-CDMA, iPad1, iPod touch 3G, iPod touch 4G.
1. If you're already on iOS 5.0.1 with a tethered jailbreak, you have two even choices:
- Run redsn0w 0.9.10 over your current jailbreak (deselect “Install Cydia”)
- Install the Cydia package prepared by the chronic devteam. It is called Corona 5.0.1 Untether. (tutorial)
2. If you are not on 5.0.1 yet, update now! If you unlock via ultrasn0w or gevey, make sure you update to 5.0.1 via a custom IPSW! See our guides for sn0wbreeze here. Once you're at 5.0.1, use the latest redsn0w 0.9.10 to both jailbreak and untether.
