A recent marketing research discovered that Verizon may end up owing Apple 14 billion dollars for selling less iPhones than it committed to do in 2013.

According to Craig Moffett, a telecommunications analyst, in 2010 Verizon signed an agreement with Apple to sell iPhones worth 23.5 billion dollars during 2013 alone.  However, the figures of 2012 show that Verizon failed to fulfill the commitment by two times. This will undoubtedly influence the dividends, as the 12-1 billion means 4-5 dollars of each share.

According to the Fortune’s latest annual list of the world’s most successful companies, Apple ranks #19. As to the top five spots, they are occupied by such corporations as Royal Dutch Shell, Wal-Mart, Exxon Mobil, Sinopec Group and China National Petroleum.

Before 2012, one could get a 100$ discount on HP Printer when buying a Mac. The promotion stopped when printers became less popular and customers switched to digital access of documents through portable devices.

Now Apple is revitalizing the HP Printers promotion program and offers instant discount on 5 Printer models. The discount varies from 10$ to 70$.

Apart from this sales booster, Apple gives such incentives 50$ or 100$ gift card to be used in  iTunes Store/App Store for educational customers when buying an iPhone/iPad or a new Mac.

According to a recent market research, Samsung spent twice as much time to ship 20 millions Galaxy 4 units as Apple for shipping the same amount of iPhone 5.

Judging by official opening weekend numbers and quarterly earnings reports, it took Apple 25 days to ship 20 million items, a month less than Samsung figure. Moreover, over the launch period Apple shipped 805,000 units per days, whereas Samsung sold half as many, about 333,000.

Worldwide Smartphone Shipments in Millions of Units

Today research company IDC published a new report for the first quarter of 2013 tracking down shipments of mobile phones by OS.

The report shows that iOS and Android continue to dominate the market with 92,3% of shipments during the quarter. iOS marked its largest 1Q shipment volume with 34.7 million units shipped. iOS’s market share decreased from 23% to 17,3% year over year, while Android increased its market share from 59.2% to 75%.

Today Fortune published its new Fortune 500 list, an annual ranking of the largest companies in the U.S. ranked by revenue. In the new list, Apple has risen to number 6 from its 17th spot in the last year’s rankings.

Today NPD published a new report on the U.S. Internet video market for 2012, noting that Apple continues to dominate both video rentals and purchases.

In looking at purchased content, Apple’s share reached 65 percent of the movie market and 67 percent of the TV show market, while Apple’s closest competitors, Amazon and Xbox Video, holding around 10 percent of the market each.

Today App Annie published its latest data on mobile app downloads, noting that continued momentum for Android apps has allowed Google Play to nearly match iOS App Store in download volume. However, while Google Play is making significant strides in generating profits for developers from app downloads, the App Store retained its strong lead in monetization, indicating that, in general, iOS device users remain more willing to pay for apps than Android users. Apple has long been a partner of Best Buy at special departments "Apple Shop" in many retail stores of electronics, but a new report from Geek.com indicates that Apple shops will soon joined by similar Samsung stores, along with the upcoming Galaxy S4 that serves as an incentive for the first phase of shops rollouts.

M.I.C Gadget reports that a new lawsuit at Apple were filed by the Shanghai Animation Film Studio. Apple allegedly permitted the sale of films without the consent of the Studio. Given that Apple does not directly sell the audio or video content through the iTunes Store in China, it seems that the problem is with movies provided through third-party applications in the App Store.
