Only 5.8-inch iPhone 8 to Feature Glass Body – Report





According to the latest report from DigiTimes, only the 5.8-inch OLED iPhone 8 will feature a body made of reinforced glass with a stainless steel frame. The 4.7-inch iPhone 7s will have an aluminum back panel similar to the one its predecessor had. The design of the 5.5-inch handset hasn’t yet been confirmed, supply chain insiders claim.

Apple Ordered 60 Million OLED Displays from Samsung



According to the latest report from The Korea Herald, Apple has ordered 60 million OLED panels from Samsung. This order accounted for 5 trillion won or $4.35 billion and is an additional one. Last April, Apple reportedly ordered 100 million OLED panels for 8 trillion won. In total, the South Korean manufacturer has to produce 200 million OLED displays for the upcoming iPhone 8.

Users Complain About Chipped Paint on Matte Black iPhone 7 Units



More and more matte black iPhone 7 users are complaining about the paint that is chipping off their devices. Apple seems to be aware of the issue, but has not yet officially commented on it. The company refuses to replace the affected iPhone units claiming that this is not a manufacturing fault and thus the devices can’t be swapped for free.

Another Galaxy S8 Image Leaks Online



Update: 9to5Google reports that the image was photoshopped and thus is fake.

Samsung will unveil the Galaxy S8 next month, which means that the handset is ready or nearly ready. New image that was posted on the Chinese social network Weibo gives us a closer look at the upcoming iPhone 8 rival. The photo seems to be genuine, it shows us the bottom side of the new South Korean flagship.

iPhone 7 Loses Market Share to Cheaper Android Phones in China



iPhone sales in China demonstrated a year-over-year decline in 2016, reports a  research firm IDC. According to the researchers, Chinese customers are waiting for the iPhone 8 that is why the market share fell from 13.6% and 58.4 million units shipped in 2015 to 9.6% and 44.9 million units last year. Apple took the fourth spot in the IDC ranking, while OPPO, Huawei, and VIVO managed to surpass the Cupertino-based giant in both market share and units shipments.

iPhone 6 Plus Bursts into Flames Again



Another iPhone caught fire while being plugged in at night. The incident took place in Palm Harbor, Florida on Tuesday. Amanda Bentz’s iPhone 6 Plus started making a hissing sound and then the battery burst into flames. Luckily, the woman woke up and asked her husband to put out the fire, so nobody was hurt that night.

New MacBooks to Get Additional ARM Chip



Apple is working on a new ARM-chip that will be added to the next-generation MacBook. According to Bloomberg, this new chip will work simultaneously with the main processor and be responsible for low-power mode features of the laptop. This is a bit similar to the chip that makes the Touch Bar work on the 2016 MacBook Pro.

OLED Displays for iPhone 8 May Cost Apple $50 Million in Q2 – Analyst



As it was reported earlier, the iPhone 8 may be equipped with a new OLED display. According to a research note from Cowen & Company analyst Timothy Arcuri, the switch to new displays may cost Apple $50 million in incremental costs. This sum will be paid to suppliers in March, but the quarterly gross margin of the company should not be affected too much, the analyst adds.

Japan Display to Produce Flexible LCDs in 2018



According to the latest report from the Wall Street Journal, one of Apple suppliers, Japan Display, is planning to start the production of flexible LCD displays in 2018. They are cheaper to produce and the company says it has already found several smartphone vendors that are ready to start using new screens. OLED screens are more advanced, they use less power, but provide better image quality. Still, LCDs are good for mid-range and low-end smartphones.
