New iPhone is coming this September

iPhone-5-4S-mockup

Bloomberg says Apple is planning to release a new faster iPhone this September.

The device will include the A5 processor, the more powerful chip that Apple added to the iPad 2 earlier this year, along with an 8-megapixel camera, up from the 5-megapixel model in the iPhone 4, said the people, who asked not to be identified because the details aren’t public. Apple is also testing a new version of the iPad that has a higher resolution screen, similar to the one now used in the iPhone 4, one of the people said.

Earlier today, another rumor source BGR reported that the new iPhone would be released even earlier, in late August. They have also mentioned that new iPhone 4S or iPhone 5 would feature a radical new design.

iCloud To Be Deeply Integrated With Apple’s Time Capsule

iCloud

Cult of Mac source claims that iCloud will be deeply integrated with Time Capsule, confirming rumors that suggested a refreshed Time Capsule would come with embedded A4 or A5 CPUs. Apparently iCloud will become “a personal cloud server”.  There obviously will be a “Home Folder” where files, which are saved on a Mac connected to the Time Capsule, will be instantly backed up and then available to any remote Mac or iOS device. The Time Capsule will be able to archive and served up any files to any connected device. Such functions will allow you to upload content to Time Capsule and make such content available for all devices on your network. If you work not on your network, all changes will be automatically made when you connect to your network.

Rumor: New Time Capsule To Run iOS, A4/A5 CPU

time capsul

Apple reportedly could release new versions of Time Capsule next week, during WWDC. Rumors claim that Time Capsule will receive some important updates: the Time Capsule would recognize known devices on a network, check for software updates available, download them in the background, and later seed them to all devices in a few seconds without having to wait for a download process. Such process would allow users to store content on iCloud. The new Time Capsule is said to run the A4 or A5 processors, just like the second-generation of Apple TV, and iOS operating  system.

Such Time Capsule that will run iOS and be capable of caching content for other devices, will allow iPhones and iPads to connect to iCloud, as well as will increase streaming speed and overall quality of media content. iOS-based Time Capsule could also be used for a broader set of functionalities such as serving content to Apple TVs or enabling additional options in Lion’s.

Apple Testing an ARM (A5) Powered MacBook Air

macbook air a5

Japanese blog Macotakara  in its latest story claims that an A5-powered MacBook Air with Thunderbolt I/O is being tested in Apple’s labs. The machine could be manufactured by Quanta Computer, the story has it. The article quotes a source who allegedly saw an early prototype:

According to this source who saw live A5 MacBook Air actually, this test machine performed better than expected. Though it’s not clear which Mac OS X or iOS is pre-installed on this A5 MacBook Air, iOS seems to have difficulty to use features of Thunderbolt without Finder. And even if Mac OS X is installed, developer should spend time to support A5 on Universal Binary Applications. As considering these situation, this A5 MacBook Air seems to be made just for experiment.

This news comes weeks after another rumor claiming that Apple is planning on transitioning from Intel to ARM-based processors on their laptops in the not too distant future. Another major issue is that while ARM processors are more power efficient, they presently offer significantly lower performance than their Intel counterparts.

iPhone 4S Coming with HSPA+, Minor Design Changes

iphone_4_side

Jefferies analyst Peter Misek claiming that the next-generation iPhone will be called “iPhone 4S” and it will come with a dual-core A5 processor, and better cameras. Misek also seems to believe the iPhone 4S will indeed feature minor “cosmetic changes” and support for HSPA+ networks.

Because the 4G chips weren’t ready, Apple is going with the minor update to the iPhone 4. Misek also revealed the next version of the phone will work with Sprint, T-Mobile, and China Mobile.

Misek believes the iPhone 5 — which was rumored to have NFC, a bigger screen, 4G connectivity, or a thinner form factor, among other things — will look like an iPhone 4, only faster on the inside.

iPad 2 would have bested 1990s-era supercomputers

supercomp

Dr. Jack Dongarra, who teaches at the University of Tennessee, is the keeper of the Top 500 list of the fastest supercomputers and also one of the authors of the Linpack computing benchmark, introduced way back in 1979. Dongarra's group decided to check performance iPad 2 having ported Linpack on the device. Tests on the iPad 2 have so far only been run on a single core of the A5 processor, but Dongarra estimates that a dual-core Linpack run will yield performance of between 1.5 and 1.65 gigaflops -- that's up to 1.65 billion floating-point operations per second. That raw performance means that the iPad 2 would have remained on the list of the world's speediest supercomputers until about 1994. The iPad 2, of course, is a 21st century device, but it is amazing that the single-processor iPad 2 has results of the four-processor version of the Cray 2 supercomputer (pictured). Perhaps, in 20 years or less, the power of modern supercomputers could be n an iPhone.

Next iPhone with larger screen revealed

large screen iphone

M.I.C. Gadget posts two images of the co-called “iPhone 4S” - an iPhone they’re pretty sure isn’t an iPhone 4, but possibly an updated model that includes a 3.7″ display, and the same proximity sensor as the white iPhone 4. The new display is nearly edge-to-edge. The photos show us the new screen to be slightly taller and slightly wider. If the image is legitimate, it appears to be closer to 3.7 inches than 4 inches. M.I.C. Gadget also speculates that it may have an A5 processor (a prototype model) that game developers are using to build games. Strings in iOS 4.3 revealed that the iPhone was slated to receive the updated processor, and recently a white iPhone was rumored being tested on T-Mobile’s network packing an A5 processor.

Apple Gives Selected Developers the So-Called iPhone 4S For Creating New Titles

iPhone4Game

9to5Mac has posted interesting information on Thursday, which reveals that Apple is going to make gaming performance of the next-gen iPhone as one of its major marketing points.

In order to do that Apple has already selected highly professional developers and gave them devices that look exactly like iPhone 4 but have an A5 processor instead of an A4. It is obviously possible due to the support of A5 chip, recently found in the iOS 4 SDK. The source of this information calls the device as the "iPhone 4S" (iPhone 4 Super?) and says it is used only in Apple's offices.

Chip Teardown Firms Confirm iPad 2's A5 Chip Manufactured by Samsung

a5 torn down

This time the second iPad’s A5 processor has became an object of teardown, revealing that the chip is indeed being manufactured by Samsung.  Some recent rumors claimed that Apple is shifting production from Samsung to TSMC.
