White iPhone 4 to Launch on April 26th

iphone4-white

Last week Apple confirmed that it is going to finally launch the white iPhone 4 very soon this spring. Apple did not mention any specific date. Multiple sources pegged the release by the end of April. Italian iPhone site iPhoneItalia is stating that, according to a "reliable source," the white iPhone 4 will launch in Italy on Tuesday April 26th. Earlier  Bloomberg confirmed that the white iPhone 4 would be shipping by the end of April. Recently white iPhone 4 part numbers began appearing in Verizon's inventory. If iPhoneItalia's sources are correct, the US launch of the white iPhone 4 will also occur on April 26th.

Untethered jailbreak for iOS 4.3.2 will be available soon

pwned

I0n1c has confirmed that his untethered jailbreak exploit is still working for iOS 4.3.2. This is good news for all jailbreakers.

Here are his recent tweets:

Apple has been nice. I just verified that the untether vulnerability is not fixed in iOS 4.3.2 - my Ipad 1 is running untethered jailbroken

Of course the public untether binaries will not work with iOS 4.3.2 - I have to generate new untether binaries with new dyld/kernel offsets

I won't be able to create all the untether binaries before sunday, because I will be on planes, ...

The dev-team cannot produce the untether binaries on their own, because they don't have the source code to the untether exploit.

Well from what I hear lots of the problems people had with 4.3.1 (like wifi, 3g, ...) are gone in 4.3.2

The new version of iOS 4.3.2 jailbreak tools RedSn0w and PwnageTool will be released by the iPhone Dev-Team quite soon.

Apple Releases Safari 5.0.5 and Security Update 2011-002

safari_5_0_5

Alongside release of iOS 4.3.2, Apple also released Safari 5.0.5 and Security Update 2011-002 for Mac OS X. Safari 5.0.5 seems to simply include the latest security updates. The updates are available through Apple's download pages and through Software Update. Security Update 2011-002 is a small download for Snow Leopard users, but the Leopard versions are far and away larger files including even more changes than their Snow Leopard counterparts.

Safari 5.1 Gets “Do Not Track” On OS X Lion

safari

According to The Wall Street Journal, Apple has added a “do-not-track” option in the latest developer build of OS X Lion to prevent advertisers and other web companies from tracking you online.

Apple Inc. has added a do-not-track privacy tool to a test version of its latest Web browser for keeping peoples’ online activities from being monitored by marketers. The tool is included within the latest test release of Lion, a new version of Apple’s Mac OS X operating system that’s currently available only to developers. The final version of the operating system is scheduled to be released to the public this summer. Mentions of the do-not-track feature in Apple’s Safari browser began to appear recently in online discussion forums and on Twitter.

This “do-not-track” option was originally offered by the FTC and was already built in Internet Explorer 9 and Firefox 4. The option may be enabled or disabled by a user at any time.

White iPhone 4 to Finally Arrive By End of April

iphone_4

Bloomberg reports that Apple will finally deliver the long-awaited white iPhone 4 by the end of April. The publication mentions “three people familiar with the plans”, and claims the device will be available both on AT&T and Verizon in the United States.

The new version will be available from AT&T Inc. and Verizon Wireless by the end of April, said one of the people, who asked not to be identified because the plans aren't public. The release was stalled as Apple resolved manufacturing challenges, including paint that peeled under heat, one person said.

The exact reason why Apple delayed the initial June 2010 release date hasn’t been revealed by the company, but previous speculation suggested problems with the white paint caused the device to take bad photos due to light leaks. The new model obviously may help boost sales of the iPhone 4.

iPhone 5 to Start Production in September

iphone 5jpg

Research firm Avian Securities claims that Apple won’t start production of the iPhone 5 until September and that the next generation iPhone won't be released until the end of the year or even early next. Avian cites "key component suppliers" as the source of the information. They also revive the possibility of a cheaper or lower cost iPhone also in the works, but no new details.

Supporting out comments over the last month, conversations with yet another key component supplier indicates that production for iPhone-5 will begin in September. In addition, our conversations also indicate the existence of a lower-spec/lower-priced iPhone in Apple’s roadmap. However, while our contacts have seen the placeholder in the Apple roadmap, they do not yet have insight into specs or production timing. This leads us to believe that any launch is likely a very late 2011 or more likely a 2012 event.

Permanent iPhone Unlock That Lasts “Forever”

verizon-iphone-4

CutYourSim, company that specialized in SIM cutters and adapters for the iPhone, offers a new service to provide permanent iPhone unlock. The company claims their method will carry on forever through any iOS or baseband update, so users don’t have to worry about updating to the latest version of iOS. Previously every iOS release and baseband update forced iPhone users to stay on an older iOS version until a new unlocking tool is released. CutYourSim also claims that it won’t influence warranty “because this is an official iPhone unlock.” The company seems to find way to add IMEI numbers of iPhones with permanent unlock to Apple’s database. So Apple will obviously find а way to block the service. It may involve accessing the IMEI database from a carrier’s online backend because the service doesn’t support the Verizon iPhone.  Moreover such “forever” unlock will cost you $169.

Apple Exploring Smart Bezel with Illuminated Buttons

patent

Apple has continued exploring the idea of smart bezel having filed a new patent related to use of a bezel as a secondary display built around a printed segmented electroluminescence technology (e-link technology). An electronic device could include a primary display (for example, LCD screen) and a secondary display (printed segmented electroluminescence display). The primary display could be used to convey visual content to a user, and the secondary display could be used to guide a user providing inputs to the device.

Apple intends to use the secondary display to introduce a set of new illuminated indicators that are able morph into various controls for work and play. Illuminated gaming and productivity controls could be built into the face-side of the bezel and/or selected back-side areas of iOS devices like the iPad.

iPhone taking secret pictures of FaceTime users

face time

Some FaceTime users have complained of strange glitch with Apple’s FaceTime platform. iPhone users report that they are seeing photos of themselves that they had never taken on FaceTime when they are trying to video call to another user.

"When one of us is calling the other via FaceTime, an old picture freezes on our screen, while the person receiving the call only sees a black screen," a person using the name "kar0786" wrote on Apple's discussion forums. "It's kind of creepy, because it brought up photos of both of us at work, where I have used FaceTime a few times but he never has."

Apple support advised these users to return factory settings but it didn’t work. One of the users continued experiencing the problem even when Apple had replaced the device with the new one.
