Apple reduces orders for iPhone 4 camera flash

flash

Apple has reportedly reduced orders of LED flash components manufactured by Phillips. A person familiar with the company's supply chain claims that it may be a sign that Apple is planning to shift to a new LED camera flash module from a different manufacturer in the next-generation iPhone. The new supplier is rumoured to be  a firm based in Taiwan, though information is unconfirmed.

LED flash first was implemented in last year iPhone 4. In May appeared rumours related to the iPhone 5 that suppose that the LED camera flash would be moved  to the right on the rear side of the device. Perhaps, separating of camera lens and flash will lead to improvement of picture quality and reduce of red-eye effect. The next-generation iPhone’s camera could sport the OmniVision’s  8-megapixel  camera sensor.

iPhone iOS 5 will flash on calls and alerts

flash-on-calls

iOS 5 will have hundreds of features. Here is one that wasn’t talked about too much, but it is an often requested feature - the iPhone 4 LED flash will now light up on incoming calls and alerts. Obviously, you can enable or disable this. This is a nice feature that was previously available only to jailbreakers.

iPhone 5 Parts Confirm New Camera Flash Position

camera

Yesterday we posted some portion of information about a case design for the “iPhone 5G” that seemed to suggest the next-generation device would relocate the rear-facing camera flash to opposite side of the lens, 9to5mac points to leaked iPhone 5 parts posted by well-sourced website Apple.Pro  which indeed show a rear camera lens with no Flash attached. The alleged parts, posted alongside old iPhone 4 camera components, show a redesigned internal front-facing lens, as well as a different rear-facing module lacking the flash part found on the iPhone 4. While it’s impossible to tell any improvements on the cameras from these photos alone, Apple.pro does seem to confirm today’s “crystal case” for the iPhone 5 with a relocated camera flash on the back panel.

“iPhone 5G” Case Suggests Thinner Bezel, New Camera Flash Placement

iPhone5-case1

Alibaba.com started selling a new case for co-called “iPhone 5G” that suggests a new camera flash placement for the next generation iPhone, as well as a thinner bezel with an horizontal edge-to-edge display design. The case has a slot for the camera flash on the opposite side of the lens, which is rumored to receive an upgrade for the iPhone Apple will likely unveil in September. As far as theories about the larger display go, in April rumors claimed  that Apple was working on a completely redesigned iPhone, a larger display, a new Home button, and worldphone capabilities.

Several rumors in the past months suggested Apple could release a redesigned iPhone 5 with a larger screen, NFC compatibility and a tweaked Home button design, but recently multiple sources and analysts close to “people familiar with Apple’s plans” seem to believe the next-generation iPhone will launch in September with a design similar to the iPhone 4, and upgrades to the CPU, RAM, and rear-facing camera lens.

Japan's Disaster Did Not Significantly Affect Apple's Supply Chain

cvilux

Yesterday DigiTimes published a report where it is said that an earthquake and tsunami in Japan had seriously affected the country's supply chain.

Because of the disaster Apple was only forced to order iPad 2 connectors at Taiwan's Cvilux.  Its previous partner in Japan, namely Hirose Electric, became unable to meet demand for Apple because of a power brownout policy in the country. Now Cvilux's business is expected to become more profitable.

New MacBook Pros to Carry Larger Trackpads, Dedicated SSD for Mac OS X

macbook_pro_2010_lineup

Rumors suggest that updated MacBook Pros appear later this week, most likely on Thursday. The new MacBook Pros will feature larger glass trackpads than those found on current models for greater flexibility and perhaps for more complex gestures. The lower-end models will have 8GB-16GB solid-state drives to house Mac OS X system files, and will also come equipped with a regular hard drive. This will offer the benefits of SSDs - instant on and super fast performance - while also providing lots of room for heavy users’ files. The idea of separate flash-based storage for system files is not a new one. Intel's "Turbo Memory", in 2006, offered similar functionality. The new machines will be up to a half-pound lighter than current models and there will be five different SKUs.
