Nintendo president called Apple its enemy

ds_browser_large_1

Recently UK Times published a report about Nintendo's current situation. The company's president Satoru Iwata said that he had already won the war with Sony and now it is Apple's turn. Satoru called it Nintendo's "enemy of the future".

The war with Sony was ended after last holiday season, when Wii had outsold Sony Playstation by almost double, though this year the sales of Nintendo's device in the first quarter were down 21% in compare to the first quarter of 2009.

So now the competition is held between Nintendo DS and Apple's iPod touch and iPhone platform. The latter has advantage of relatively low prices for games (moreover, some of them are even free). There are also studies, that reveal that people who like to play would rather carry an iPhone than a DS.

New versions of iPhone OS 4 have spellcheck support

iPhone.spellcheck.001

Those developers who study new beta-versions of iPhone OS 4.0 reveal that new firmware has features of suggested word replacement and spellcheck imported from the iPad to the iPod touch and iPhone. They were presented first in iPad which has iPhone OS 3.2.

Spelling system allows users to select a misspelled word with a touch and then choose «Replace...» instead of using copy/paste operations. The word that was misspelled is underlined in red like in Mac OS X or Microsoft Word. After that system offers replacement word suggestions that also can be chosen with only one touch.

Apple announced that iPhone OS 4 will also allow iPod touch and iPhone to support iPad's Bluetooth keyboard.

iPhone OS 4.0 May Be Brought to iPhone 2G

iPhoneOS4foriPhone2G

An unknown group of hackers work now on bringing current beta version of iPhone OS 4 to the iPhone 2G (that was released in 2007). As you remember, Steve Jobs mentioned on his iPhone OS 4 keynote that the system won't be supported by iPhone 2G due to its low memory and processing power. Hackers also explained what they are working on:

"We are rewriting the 4.0 beta firmware released by Apple to create a custom firmware that can run on devices iPhone 2G which is no longer available. To do this we studied the architecture of the firmware previously released by Apple on the device trying to understand how is it different from the released versions on other devices, in particular that of the iPhone 3G device, which is what most resembles the smartphones".

According to a shady photo above they've already reached success but still there is no relevant information revealed on their site.

Want To Play Golf? There's An App For That

This app would not be mentioned on iPhoneroot if not a video found recently. Gigaputt for iPhone ($1.99) is created by Gigantic Mechanic and allows playing golf just anywhere. At first sight Gigaputt users look pretty foolish, though the app seems to be pretty interesting and fascinating. It supports Openfeint and Twitter/Facebook integration.

You can download it here.

Apple develops Gianduia - an alternative to Flash

Gianduia

As you remember, last week Steve Jobs posted a letter about his thoughts on Flash and that same day Adobe’s CEO commented on it.  Sometime later chief technology officer Kevin Lynch also expressed his opinion on the situation:

"It's not about HTML5 vs. Flash. They're mutually beneficial. The more important question is the freedom of choice on the Web."

In the meantime, Instead of using plugin-based technologies like Adobe Flash and Microsoft Silverlight, Apple created a new client-side framework Gianduia to produce quality online applications for retail users.

Tutorial: how to connect external HDD to Apple iPad

iPad USB Camera Connection Kit is much more useful as it seems. Max Sha, an experienced user, was able to access external hard drive with this kit. All you need is a jailbroken iPad, an external drive, a split-USB cable to give the drive some power and a terminal of some sort (f.e. MacBook) to mount the external storage. iPhone 4G Will Have High Resolution Screen

iPhone41 iPhone42

An Italian blog ispazio.net had recently acquired photos of iPhone 4G screen and frame. They say it's real because the pictures were taken from reliable sources.

The iPhone looks very similar to the prototype found by Gizmodo. The frame has the same front-facing camera and corners. Screen connector looks bigger than before, which confirms that there will be more connections to the motherboard and as a result - more pixels than in the current models.

The blog also say its iPhone has LCD display. The current Apple's models also have LCD, but most of the company's competitors already use AMOLED displays in their phones.

New Apple ViP Program Will Help Developers To Control Their Business

quattro

According to TechCrunch, Wireless Quattro had recently contacted iPhone app developers to introduce their new "Verification of iTunes Purchase" program. The company is an Apple subsidiary, and it currently develops forthcoming iAd program.

ViP helps developers to promote their apps in App Store via ads which appearing in iPhone apps. With this feature they can track download conversion rates in real-time. Such information is proprietary to Apple, so Quattro promotes the product and its "exclusive integration with the App Store", because such a feature is unavailable to other ad networks, and such information mentioned in the e-mail:

"Verification of iTunes Purchase uses no SDK or server-side integration — this cannot be duplicated by any of our competitors".

Other advertisement companies such as Google's AdMob can only estimate conversion rates, but such data cannot be as precise and detailed as Quattro's one. For enabling conversion tracking every developer that uses AdMob must integrate the company's advertising API into his code.

"I just want to say that I'm sorry if I made it look like the iPhone is hard to use. It's not hard to use. I have an iPhone. Portia has an iPhone. I just learned how to text on an iPhone. It’s the only phone I can text on. I love it. I love my iPad. I love my iPod. I love iHop. So everybody at Apple - Steve Jobs, Mr. Macintosh. I apologize. I'm sorry. I love this stuff."
