Apple Seeking To Block Sales Of Samsung’s Devices In Japan
According to , this morning Apple sued Samsung in Japan and requested the court to block sales of Samsung tablets and phones in the country:
"Apple has filed a suit with the Tokyo District Court seeking the suspension of sales of Galaxy S and its sequel S II smartphones and the Galaxy Tab 7 in Japan, according to sources close to the matter. The first hearing was held on Wednesday, the source said".

Today Intuit that the QuickBooks for Mac 2012, financial management software for small businesses, was enhanced for OS X Lion. Over fifty new features were added to the software, including vendor and customer history panels, transaction list, improved search with filters and keywords. The software will be put on sale September 26 as a digital version for download on the Apple’s and , Amazon.com and other retail stores at $230 for a single user. Boxed versions will be available from October 9.
Apple Projected as World's Top Smartphone Vendor for 2011
We already reported that in the second quarter of 2011 Apple had passed Nokia as the world's largest smartphone vendor as measured by shipments. But Nokia still excelled Apple in sales to end user. Digitimes Research now projects that Apple will be a top smartphone vendor of 2011 with nearly 19% of the market at 86.4 million units.
Apple is expected to overtake Nokia as the top ranking vendor in terms of shipment volume in 2011, while Huawei Technologies will enjoy robust growth in shipments enabling the China-based company to close its gap with Sony Ericsson and Motorola.
Apple's smartphone shipments are projected to top 86.4 million units in 2011, up 82% from 47.5 million units in 2010. In contrast, Nokia's smartphone shipments in 2011 will decline to 74.4 million units from over 100 million in 2010, said Luke Lin, analyst for Digitimes Research.
China Unicom and China Mobile Are Set To Launch Cheap iPhone Competitors
Apple’s sales in China are up sixfold and reached $3.8 billion in second quarter revenues. Chinese market remains largely untapped and Apple could increase iPhone sales there by reaching agreements with additional Chinese carriers. However until now Apple hasn’t succeeded in reaching the agreement with the largest wireless operator China Mobile, and the sole Apple’s carrier in this country remains China Unicom. Two lens makers tapped by Apple to supply 8MP cameras for iPhone 5
A new report claims that Apple has made a deal with Largan Precision and Genius Electronic Optical to build and supply 8-megapixel camera lenses for the company's forthcoming next-generation handset.
“The two companies are reported to continue supplying lenses for Apple’s newest iPhone 5 with an 8-megapixel camera. With relatively higher production yield, Largan, commanding nearly 20% of the global market, will reportedly garner a big order from Apple.”
Both companies were previously responsible for production of 5-megapixel lens modules for the current-generation iPhone 4. Today’s report claims the two companies will compete and work together as they continue to share Apple has one of their largest customers for the upcoming next-gen iPhone. Last year both companies covered 27.5 percent of global market share and it could move even higher as iPhone sales continue to grow. It’s not surprising that Apple continues to source parts from multiple suppliers. This is a move that is common for the company in an attempt to create competition amongst suppliers, drive down prices, and increase production quality while reducing risk.

Google and Apple Will Compete For “Undecideds”

Apple reportedly created a team in 2008 to combat counterfeits
CNN that Wikileaks cables showed that in 2008 Apple formed an anti-counterfeit team to combat fake iPod touches and iPhones. Initially Apple planned to go after street vendors and retailers, cooperate with police to raid production facilities, and to catch online retailers.
The technology giant eventually organized a team in March 2008 to curtail the explosion of knockoff iPods and iPhones, according to an electronic memo from the Beijing embassy dated September 2008.
In recent years fake products has been a serious problem for Apple. More recently, several Apple stores selling almost identical devices were opened in China. It is likely that great amount of counterfeit sales is connected with insufficient number of stores in this region. At present, Apple has only 4 stores, and a new store in Hong Kong will be opened this year.
Recently Apple hasn’t managed to combat counterfeits, as more and more fake products appear ahead of iPhone 5 launch.
Reportedly Chinese government doesn’t give any help to Apple. CNN reports that, according to the cable dated April 2009, Chinese government refused to investigate facility where fake Apple laptops were manufactured, because this could affect local jobs. Also it doesn’t approve Apple’s plans for a raid on a mall selling electronics in the Guangdong province, as it could scare away shoppers.
Apple Is The Best In U.S. Retail Sales Per Square Foot
According to a survey from retail analysis company , Apple is the best in retail sales per square foot among 160 top U.S. retailers. As the table above shows, Apple is nearly two times better than its closest competitor Tiffany & Co, and nearly five times better than its closest technology related competitor GameStop. It is impressive that Apple managed to become the best having much less experience ( ten years) than most of its competitors included in the survey.

Research firm NPD has recently announced results of its Mobile Phone Track report for the second quarter of 2011. Android is still leading the U.S. smartphone with 52% of the market; Apple's iPhone has 29% while BlackBerry devices only 11% of the market. HP Discontinues Smartphone And Tablet Hardware Business
According to Bloomberg’s , Hewlett-Packard, one of the largest computer makers worldwide, is going to announce plans to spin off its personal computer business in order to focus on cloud-based services and software. The computer maker confirmed that its board of directors has authorized the decision of partial or full separation of its Personal Systems Group (PSG) from the company by means of spin-off or other transaction. The announcement about spin off is planned to be made later today after the company publishes its quarterly financial results.
