Retina MacBook Pro Users Still Complaining of Image Persistence

retina_macbook_pro_image_persistence

Back in late June, early purchasers of Apple's Retina MacBook Pro reported on the image persistence caused by some production issues. Having used a device for a certain period of time, they noticed its screen became vaguely and left traces of previous images.

Apple replaced the defective devices. DisplayMate’s Ray Soneira has mentioned the persistence was caused by early production issue, but three months later, users still complain of the released product’s “ghosting” issue. A lot of messages were posted on MacRumors' forums and at Apple Support Communities which are largely reported on the issues related to the LG displays and experienced by the manufacturer. Samsung Displays were not affected by the issue.

Apple announces the new iPhone 5

iphone5

Today Apple introduced the new iPhone 5. It has a new design, however it looks a bit like tall iPhone 4S.

It is 18% thinner than the 4S, just 7.6mm. It's even 20% percent lighter at 112 grams. The in-cell retina display is 4-inch with 1136 x 640 resolution. Apple says new iPhone 5 has a better color saturation with full sRGB rendering. That new longer screen allows for an extra set of icons to be displayed on the home screen, and first party apps have already been tweaked to take advantage of additional pixels. The tweaked ratio puts the iPhone 5 display closer to 16:9, but it's not quite there.

iPhone 5 supports worldwide LTE as well as HSPA+ and DC-HSDPA. 802.11n Wi-Fi can connect at 2.4ghz and 5ghz. Performance is said to be 2 times faster with new A6 processor. iSight camera features 8-megapixel sensor, backside flash, hybrid IR filter, five-element lens, sapphire lens, f/2.4 aperture, next-generation ISP, spatial noise reduction, smart filter, better low-light performance, 40 percent faster on photo capture, and HD video recording (1080p) up to 30 frames per second with audio.
Front FaceTime HD camera has 1.2MP sensor, improved video stability and is capable of recording HD video (720p) up to 30 fps. Audio system was also improved. iPhone 5 has 3 mics and improved speakers.

iPhone 5 preorders to start on September 14th

iPhone 5 Render Based on Leaked Parts

Rumors say that pre-orders for the next generation iPhone 5 are reportedly set to begin the morning of Friday, September 14th, according to MacRumors:

MacRumors is now hearing that pre-orders may not begin tomorrow following the media event and that they may instead start on Friday morning in a scenario similar to last year's debut. We're hearing that certain portions of Apple's online sales support team are significantly increasing their staffing levels beginning at 6:00 AM Eastern on Friday, with a major surge for the initial shift beginning at that time and a sustained level of high staffing for at least the remainder of the day.

Last year, the iPhone 4S was set to begin pre-orders at 12:01 AM Pacific Time the Friday following the Apple's media event.

So users are given an extra couple of days to get the money together.

Comparison Photos of iPhone 4S and iPhone 5 Batteries

iresq_iphone_5_battery_shell

While several photos of the next-generation iPhone battery have leaked in August, Apple products repair firm iResQ has now got one of the batteries and published new photos that show the battery in the device’s rear shell and next to the battery from iPhone 4S for comparison.

The iPhone 5 battery is at 3.8 volts, potentially utilizing new chemistry technology to increase capacity to 5.45Whr from the 3.7 volt/5.3Whr iPhone 4S battery. The comparison photo shows that the iPhone 5 battery is slightly taller than the battery in the iPhone 4S, and the thickness seems almost the same despite the fact the iPhone 5 is said to be at least 15 percent thinner than the iPhone 4S.

The photos also show that the connector on the next iPhone is different and it is located on the opposite side of its battery in order to accommodate its new position in the device.
