iTV Entertainment Warns Apple Of Legal Actions If It Uses iTV Name
While rumors have been widely circulating that Apple is working on a TV set, no direct evidence of this product has emerged. As for the possible name for the product, some have believed that Apple will name the new TV set "Apple TV", while other suggested the company will prefer the "iTV" name despite it raises branding and trademark issues with other companies such as UK-based .
Proview accuses Apple of fraud and unfair competition
On Monday Proview amended its California lawsuit against Apple over its use of the "iPad" trademark, accusing the company of multiple instances of fraud and unfair competition.
"The complaint provides evidence that the December 23, 2009 agreement that Proview Taiwan entered into was fraudulently induced by the concealment and suppression of material facts by Apple's agents, and that, as a result, the 2009 agreement is void," the press release states. "Once the agreement is voided for fraud, the iPad trademarks in the European Union, South Korea, Mexico, Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand, and Vietnam will revert back to Proview Taiwan."
In U.S. Proview Sues Apple Over Alleged Deception In Purchase Of iPad Trademarks
Reuters, the legal dispute over the iPad trademark has taken an interesting twist, with Proview filing a lawsuit against Apple in the U.S. over deception associated with the deal between Apple and Proview.
Apple established a dummy corporation under the name IP Application Development Ltd (IPAD) in order to enter into negotiations over the trademark with Proview in 2009. In its lawsuit, Proview alleges that Apple's efforts to conceal its identity amounted to fraud.
Apple Threatens Proview With Lawsuit For Defamation
According to , Chinese court has decided against Apple in its ongoing dispute with Proview over the trademark rights to the "iPad" in that country, ruling that distributors should cease selling iPad in China. However, the impact of the decision is unclear as it just one of several lawsuits that Proview has filed against Apple seeking to extract $2 billion for these rights.
iPad Issues in China
Yesterday the iPad had been pulled from sale at online retailers Amazon China and Suning.com. The Wall Street Journal now reports that the iPad had been removed at Apple's request rather than as a result of actions associated with the trademark dispute, but Apple's reasons for the request were unknown. However, Apple may request that Amazon China remove the iPad from sale, simply due to Amazon China not being an officially authorized retailer.
The Cupertino, Calif., consumer electronics giant asked Amazon in China to stop selling iPads because it is not an authorized reseller, according to people familiar with the matter. Amazon has since removed iPads offered by other resellers on its Chinese website as well.
