Apple Reacts to Hackers’ Threat, Says There Were No Breaches



Yesterday, a group of hackers demanded that Apple should pay them $75,000. They claimed they had access to more than 600 million icloud.com, me.com, and mac.com accounts and promised to delete these accounts unless the company pays them until April 7. Today, Apple commented on the issue, saying there were no Apple ID or iCloud breaches. Apple also suggested that the hackers may have obtained the account details leaked by third-party services.

iPhone 6s Named Most Popular Smartphone of 2016



According to the latest report from a research firm IHS Markit, the iPhone 6s was the most popular smartphone in 2016. In terms of global shipments, the handset outpaced the iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus, and the iPhone 6s Plus. Apple Discontinues iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 2



Yesterday, Apple released the 9.7-inch iPad. At the same time, the company discontinued the 9.7-inch iPad Air 2 and the 7.9-inch iPad mini 2. As of yesterday, nobody can purchase each of these two directly from Apple. The fourth-generation iPad mini is now available only with 128GB of storage at the price of $399.

Apple Releases (PRODUCT)RED iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, Updates iPhone SE

iPhone Kills Man Who Was Charging It While Being in Bath



A 32-year-old man from London died because of the iPhone that he was charging while taking a bath. The phone was plugged in and the part of charging cable fell into the water. The man was electrocuted and paramedics were unable to save his life. The incident took place in December, 2016.

Developer Teases Untethered iOS 10.3 Jailbreak



A developer nicknamed 0xnever has announced on Twitter that he will soon release an untethered jailbreak of iOS 10.3, which is currently being tested by developers and public testers. According to the hacker, his tool will turn the semi-tethered Yalu jailbreak into a fully untethered with just one tap. Looks like there are many vulnerabilities in the latest iOS version that can be used to hack it.

Apple to Build Additional R&D Centers in China



Apple is planning to build two additional R&D centers in China in 2017. Earlier it was announced that two similar centers will open in Beijing and Shenzhen, but the company decided that it needs two more facilities for its major market. They will be located in Shanghai and Suzhou. Apple will spend over $500 million on the Chinese research and development centers.

A firm called ColorWare has created a new custom iPhone 7 Plus model called the iPhone 7 Plus Retro Edition. The device is the unlocked 256GB iPhone 7 Plus with a colorful Apple logo on the back panel and the paint color reminiscent of old Macintosh computers from 1980s. There’re also several stripes on the sides of the device, they resemble cooling vents of old computers. The price of this custom-made iPhone is $1899.
