Initial Verizon iPhone 4 Sales May Be Below Expectations
This Wednesday Boy Genius Report revealed that the launch of the Verizon iPhone 4 did not meet the expectations of Verizon and Apple. Their unknown Apple source even provided figures of sales in five Apple stores, two of which are "very, very prominent" locations. Here are the provided numbers for sales of iPhones with contracts of different carriers.

1M Verizon iPhones may be sold in the first week of sales
Today Mike Abramsky, who is an analyst from investment firm RBC Capital Markets, released a note to investors, where he said that Apple and Verizon will sell more than 1 million iPhones in a week after its launch. He also forecasted that in the first quarter of device availability both companies will sell approximately from 3 to 4 million handsets.
He also took available inventory and estimated pre-order numbers and found out that Apple, Best Buy and Verizon may stock out completely as soon as in the first week after the launch of the device. The analyst believes that Apple has 1-1,5 million units for the launch in its channel inventory.

Next Generation iPad In Production
Wall Street Journal reports that the next version of the iPad is now in production. The new iPad will be available through both Verizon and AT&T but not Sprint or T-Mobile, according to the newspaper.
The new device will be thinner, lighter and will come with a faster processor, more memory and a more powerful graphics processor, said the people familiar with the matter. It will have a front-facing camera for the first time for features like video-conferencing, but the resolution of the new iPad's display will be similar to the first iPad, they said.
iFixit Verizon iPhone 4 Teardown Reveals GSM Compatible Chip
iFixit tore down the Verizon iPhone 4 and fond out inside a Qualcomm MDM6600 chip that supports HSPA+ data rates of up to 14.4 Mbps, as well as CDMA2000 1xEV-DO Rev. A/Rev. B. The same chipset has the Droid Pro that supports both GSM and CDMA - which means that Apple could support GSM! Apple of course has not included a SIM-card slot in the Verizon iPhone, and thus the device can not actually be used on GSM networks. The use of this particular chip signifies that the iPhone 5 will surely be dual-mode, allowing Apple to ship one handset for both Verizon and AT&T, as well as every other carrier in every other country.
Verizon iPhone early review roundup
Just after a couple of hours a the launch of the new version of iPhone 4 on the Verizon's web-page the first reviews of the new CDMA iPhone 4 hit the web. We have decided to make a short summary. So, the Verizon iPhone looks, feels, and works just like the AT&T iPhone 4. AT&T can be faster for data and handles simultaneous voice and data, but Verizon sounds better, calls are more crisp and clear, and has more reception in more places. This version of the iPhone 4 seems to have none of the same antenna issues as the AT&T model and provides 4 hour of hotspot connection. The phone connects reliably and consistently. Unfortunately, the Verizon iPhone drops the Internet connection if you're using the Internet and your phone rings.
Despite of all advantages and disadvantage of the new version of the well-known iPhone 4, it is the first time than the iPhone users in the U.S. have a choice of carrier.
Verizon will offer unlimited data plan for iPhone 4 buyers
This week Engadget unveiled a leaked photo of new Verizon pricing, which shows that the carrier will soon cancel its 150MB data plan, and those who will buy new 3G smartphones will be required to pay $29.99 for every month of unlimited data allowance.
New changes will take place after Verizon will launch CDMA-version of the iPhone 4 on Feb. 10.

White iPhone 4 makes an appearance on Three, Orange UK, AT&T
Last week the rumored white iPhone 4 appeared in Best Buy database. And recently the device has been listed in AT&T's Online Account Management system as an option for users managing their accounts online. Both 16GB and 32GB versions of the phone listed in the model picker, which could definitely suggest that the company is getting ready to finally make them available. The carrier's online account tool obviously doesn’t t include any indication as far as when we might expect white iPhone 4 models.
Apple's Q1 2011 Conference Call: Notes Of Interest
Yesterday Apple reported its best quarter in the company's history. That what numbers tell and Apple's CEO Steve Jobs said at the beginning of a conference call:
“We had a phenomenal holiday quarter with record Mac, iPhone and iPad sales. We are firing on all cylinders and we’ve got some exciting things in the pipeline for this year including iPhone 4 on Verizon which customers can’t wait to get their hands on.”

Consumer Reports Criticized Verizon iPhone 4
New post on Consumer Reports' blog written by Mike Gikas and Paul Reynolds reveals that the company thinks Verizon iPhone 4 will have a short life as soon it will "be replaced by a newer, cooler version more quickly than is customary even for the die-young life expectancy of most smart phones."
It is true that Apple made the CDMA-enabled iPhone a mid-year carrier expansion, and most observers expect new iPhone 5 will not replace its less than 6-month old predecessor as at launch it will support only GSM / UMTS technologies. However, Apple's rivals do not propose any product cycles anyway and release new handsets every few months, so the position of Consumer Reports looks pretty inconsistent.

Next Generation iPhones Referenced in iOS 4.3
The latest iOS 4.3 build contains model references to not yet released iPhone and iPad models indicated in the code as:
iPad2,1
iPad2,2
iPad2,3
iPhone4,1
iPhone4,2
The first generation iPad carries a model number of "iPad1,1", the current iPhone 4 is 3,1 for AT&T and 3,2 for Verizon. These new designations likely represent the next generation iPad and iPhone. Perhaps, the second digit represents hardware differences between models - such as a Verizon iPhone and AT&T iPhone. We’re thinking maybe China is getting a new iPhone. Or maybe the magical white iPhone has something different to it or maybe that Sprint event on Feb 7th is for a WiMAX . The iPad is also believed to be coming to both Verizon and AT&T, so that may explain at least a few of the different model numbers.
Commercial negotiations between Apple and Verizon took one day
This week Bloomberg took an interesting interview with Verizon Communications President Lowell McAdam. He talked about the deal between his company and Apple that needed few years to reach.
It became known that both companies agreed to trade "inside information" about their upcoming services and products. An extensive testing of iPhone 4 became possible due to CDMA towers, which were installed at Apple's campus in Cupertino. That allowed to avoid network issues, while similar problems have became a public relations concern for AT&T.
