Alleged Apple 'iPad mini' cases show rear camera, mystery hole
The protective third-party cases allegedly designed to fit Apple's rumored "iPad mini" were discovered and highlighted on Friday by Giz-China.com. The cases show a space on the back for a rear-facing camera at the top left of the device that suggests that like all other portable iOS devices, including the iPhone and iPod touch, the smaller iPad will feature a rear-facing camera.
Apple Wants To Make Set-Top Box For Live TV Content
Following the report from yesterday on a possible Apple cable set-top box, The Wall Street Journal today more details on Apple’s plans.
According to the report, Apple wants to make the device that would allow viewers to watch any TV show at any moment through a cloud-based DVR service that would store shows online. This service would allow viewers to stream a show within minutes after it started airing live.
“Another significant feature of the Apple set-top device is likely to be its user interface, which could resemble the navigation icons on Apple's iPad. While the design may change, the interface is expected to be easier for people to use than existing cable on-screen menus, widely viewed as clunky.
Apple's device also may create space on the TV screen for social media features, such as sharing TV shows through services like Twitter Inc., the people said”.
Also Apple wants that users can transfer content from the device on iPhones, iPads and other Apple products.
The WSJ says that Apple has been in negotiations with cable providers like Time Warner Cable and Comcast, and with companies that control TV content. The report notes that terms of existing agreements between content and cable companies might not allow them to seal a deal for using Apple’s devices without permission of content owners.
Earlier this month CEO of CBS Les Moonves that his company is willing to offer its content on a future Apple TV set depending "what we get paid" and "what the terms are".
Top Samsung designer denies copying iOS icons
A senior designer at Samsung, Jeeyuen Wang, took the stand on Tuesday in an effort to counter Apple's allegations that multiple Samsung devices copied the layout and imagery of iOS. The designer claims hundreds of people around the world worked tirelessly on Samsung's iconography, adding that she herself was only able to sleep two or three hours a night. Wang admitted that she did look at products from other companies, including Apple, but denied stealing the icons outright, saying instead that it was part of the design process.

Industrial designer Don Lehman has analyzed the leaked photos of the rumored iPhone 5 unibody design that should make the device stronger, lighter, and thinner than previous models, using a high-quality, thin metal shell wherever possible on the back of the device.
With the iPhone needing to send and receive Wi-Fi, cellular, GPS, Bluetooth, and perhaps NFC signals, Lehman notes that Apple redesigned the antenna system in order to push the antennas to the top and bottom portions of the stainless steel band wrapping around the device and avoid the "Antennagate" controversy that first took place with the iPhone 4. The FTC has officially announced that Google has agreed to pay a record $22.5 million penalty to settle the case related to the circumvention of privacy settings in Safari. Google took advantage of a loophole in Safari's privacy settings designed to prevent placement of third-party cookies by default, using invisible web forms to trick Safari into thinking that users had interacted with Google's ads and thus allowing cookies to be placed on the device.
