Aerial Photos of Recent Work at Apple's North Carolina Data Center
Later this month we told you that Apple was already undertaking a minor expansion of its massive data center in Maiden, North Carolina. The company has recently received permits for building “tactical data center.” Now we may show you aerial photos of the site obtained by Wired, demonstrating ongoing installation of solar panels at the 100-acre solar farm across the street from the data center and what appears to be the 4.8-megawatt fuel cell facility behind the data center.

iLounge reported yesterday that the expected smaller dock connector in Apple's next iPhone will be an 8-pin design. Moreover, iOS 6 will receive a new Bluetooth 4.0 to improve share functionality between Apple’s devices. But these rumors contradict earlier reports claiming that the new dock on Apple's next iPhone will be a 19-pin design.
Sharp President Confirmed Shipments Of Displays For Next iPhone in August
Reuters, today at a press conference in Tokyo Sharp president Takashi Okuda made a public statement, acknowledging that Sharp will start shipping displays for the upcoming iPhone this month. Reuters said:
“Japan's Sharp Corp. said it will start shipping screens destined for a new Apple iPhone that is widely expected to be released in October ahead of the pre-Christmas shopping season. Shipments will start in August.”
Samsung Publicly Released Excluded Evidence In Apple Trial
Samsung’s pre-iPhone designs such as design of F700 smartphone have been known for a long time but Judge Lucy Koh did not allow Samsung to use that information as an evidence in the trial with Apple. Being displeased with the decision, Samsung sent the images that were barred by the court to and other publications saying:
“The excluded evidence would have established beyond doubt that Samsung did not copy the iPhone design.”
Jonathan Ive Talks On Design And Apple’s Goals
Wired UK, Apple head of design Jonathan Ive took part in a session yesterday at the Global Business Summit where he shared some of his thoughts about the creative process at Apple. More Early iPhone and iPad Prototype Designs Surfaced
AllThingsD has now put together a gallery of dozens of images of the early iPhone and iPad prototype designs from the court documents revealed during the ongoing lawsuit between Apple and Samsung.
Among the many filings on Saturday was a document with dozens of sketches and prototypes for both the iPhone and iPad. Some had already been included in earlier filings, but Saturday’s collection was particularly extensive.

iLounge says that Apple will be ready to ship the new iPhone by mid-September and could launch the device during the third week of the month. Apple's iPhone twice as profitable per unit as iPad

Google And Apple Joined Separate Alliances In Bidding For Kodak Patents
Apple and Google again competing against each other in bidding for a large collection of patents owned by a camera giant Kodak. The Wall Street Journal that two separate groups have formed in order to bid for the collection of patents owned by a Kodak that is currently in bankruptcy.

OS X Mountain Lion Already Accounting for 3% of Mac Traffic
The analytics firm Chitika reports that just over 48 hours after launch, OS X Mountain Lion is already accounting for over 3% of web traffic coming from the Mac platform.
“Moreover, based on Apple’s June 2012 announcement that there are currently 66 million Mac users in the wild, we can infer that 2.11 million Mac users downloaded OS X Mountain Lion in the past 48 hours,” Chitika said. “Using this figure, if we assume that 90 percent of these users paid to upgrade, OS X Mountain Lion generated $38 million in revenue for Apple in the past 48 hours.”

Apple to Buy Mobile Security Company AuthenTec for $356 Million
Reuters reports that Apple has reportedly reached a deal to purchase AuthenTec, a security company best known for creating fingerprint sensors, for $356 million. The acquisition agreement was approved with unanimous consent by AuthenTec's board this week, according to Bezinga. The deal is not yet finalized because it requires approval from the majority of outstanding shares of the company's common stock, among other final steps.
