Today the Chronic Dev-Team released their jailbreak utility called Greenpois0n. There are currently two versions - for Windows and for Linux users. The team is working on a Mac version, so it will be released soon. Greenpois0n supports only firmware iOS 4.1, so use Limera1n if you want to jailbreak iOS 4.0, iOS 4.0.1 or iOS 4.0.2.
Remember: Do not update to iOS 4.1 if you need the unlock. Ultrasn0w does not support that baseband yet.
Hackers used the bootrom exploit found by Geohot and used in limera1n.
These are instructions on how to jailbreak your iPhone 3GS (all bootroms) and iPhone 4 using Limera1n for Windows. Limera1n supports iOS 4.0, iOS 4.0.1, iOS 4.0.2 and iOS 4.1. Use the same steps to jailbreak iPod Touch 4G and iPod Touch 3G and even iPad. You can find the Mac OS version of this tutorial here.
Remember: Do not update to iOS 4.1 if you need the unlock. Ultrasn0w does not support that baseband yet.
UPDATE: Please, consider reading our Jailbreak & Unlock FAQ, especially if you have questions or troubles.
Step 1
Open your browaer and navigate to www.limera1n.com and download LimeRa1n for Windows by clicking on the Windows.
Famous hacker Geohot is back and today he released the latest iOS 4.1 jailbreak. It is called LimeRa1n and supports iPhone 3GS, iPod Touch 3G, iPad, iPhone 4, iPod Touch 4G with iOS firmwares 4.0-4.1 and beyond. It can also hacktivate your device, so there is no need in phone SIM-cards and other tricks.
This software is still in beta and was updated 3 times in last several hours. So use with caution.
There is Windows version only for now. Geohot plans to release LimeRa1n for Mac and Linux soon. You can Download it here.
Some users report that they have jailbroken their iOS 3.2.2 iPads successfully with limera1n, while others report that they tried, but failed.
Do not forget to backup.
For many users of iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4 with iOS 4.0.2 now there is a hope to perform jailbreak using LimeRa1n and unlock using ultrasn0w. We recommend NOT to do it if you have not saved your SHSH keys. You can try, but if something goes wrong without SHSH keys you'll have to restore to iOS 4.1, and there is no unlock for iOS 4.1 (possibly forever). Just wait for PwnageTool utility.
DevTeam reported that Limera1n uses a different exploit than SHAtter, so they will not release SHAtter utility, they don't want let Apple fix both security holes. However they plan to release PwnageTool using the same exploit.
Apple has released iOS 4.1 for the iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPod Touch 2G, iPod Touch 3G and iPod touch 4G.
iOS 4.1 enables the Game Center social gaming network, support for High Dynamic Range (HDR) photos, and HD video uploading to YouTube. The update also fixes several bugs, including proximity sensor issues, performance issues and Bluetooth problems.
Full official changelog and download links are after the break:
Today Apple released patches for its iOS that address a security hole in Mobile Safari, which allowed users to jailbreak their iDevices. The PDF exploit they used also allowed hackers to gain remote control over the device with an iOS.
You can update your device via the links above or simply by connecting your device to iTunes and clicking Update. But note, if you want to continue using jailbreak you should not update your handset/tablet and don't forget to backup your SHSH blobs.
Apple has just released iOS4: the highly anticipated operating system update for iPhone and iPod Touch. The update is free for both iPhone and iPod Touch. Some functionality is limited for some models. For example multitasking will not work on iPhone 3G.
You can download iOS 4 now by connecting your device to iTunes and hitting Check for Update. The other option is to download it directly. Here are the links:
And now we have another leak from Vietnam. Tinhte.vn resource revealed few photos and video of the iPod Touch with camera which must be a next-gen Apple device. As you see from the photos below there is a "DVT-1" stamp on the back of the iPod that means it is a first design verification test unit so it may not be the final look of the upcoming iPod touch. Device's serial number reveals it's a late 2009 iPod touch 3G; also it looks pretty like the eBay prototype we talked about before.
The video reveals the device has 64 Gb and 2 megapixel camera produced by Omnivision and runs diagnostic utility. Read the rest of this entry »
Wow! Hours after iPad 3G sales launch and it has already been jailbroken! Below is a video of MuscleNerd where jailbroken iPad 3G runs Cydia.
MuscleNerd used the jailbreak called "Spirit". It's a tool that makes untethered unlock of iPad, iPod Touch 3G and iPhone 3GS and DevTeam promises it will be available soon. Stay tuned for further instructions how to save your SHSH Blobs and then use Spirit to jailbreak your device.
Now developers can download the beta version of iPhone OS 4.0 from the Apple Developer Connection. Both the SDK and firmware for every version of iPod Touch and iPhone are available.
Note: it is rumored that the iPhone OS 4.0 cannot be installed on iPod Touch 3G 32 GB version. Developers that tried to load the OS after its installing complain they got an error message:
"The iPod could not be restored. This device isn't eligible for the requested build".
Geohot, the famous iPhone hacker and the creator of different jailbreak and unlock utilities (purplera1n, blackra1n and blacksn0w), is now working on a new jailbreak utility. It will support untethered jailbreak for all devices with the latest bootrom and the latest firmware. This includes iPhone 3GS and iPod Touch 3G.
Here is what Geohot writes in his blog:
The jailbreak is all software based, and is as simple to use as blackra1n. It is completely untethered, works on all current tethered models(ipt2, 3gs, ipt3), and will probably work on iPad too.
Don't ask about a release date. You won't make it happen any sooner.
It is still unclear if he used one of the recent iPhone Safari hacks to gain control of the device or if this is something else.
A few hours ago we wrote about new group of hackers who claimed to have found a new exploit for the iPhone 3GS and iPod Touch with new iBoot. With this Gull1Hack utility you should be able to perform the untethered Jailbreak even on new devices. Here is a new demo video:
A new group of hackers claim they found a new exploit for the iPhone 3GS and iPod Touch with the new BootRom. This means that jailbreak for iPhone 3GS (late models) and iPod Touch 2G (MC) and iPod Touch 3G will be available.
We just found an amazing Exploit in the Boot-System of the 3GS with the new Bootrom! This Exploit works on ALL iPhone and iPod Touches!
The tool will be called Gull1hack. The operation is very simple and the code is sent when the device is in recovery mode, just like Blackra1n and Redsn0w do. This jailbreak tool has been neither confirmed by Geohot nor from the DevTeam. Many users think this is fake. We'll see.
So this is a minor update, which fixing only the accuracy of the 3GS battery meter and the stability of some third-party app launches. This update is avaliable via iTunes.
New firmware 3.1.3 also introduces a new version of the baseband, the 05.12.01. So if you need unlock do not update! DevTeam also warns us:
If you care about your jailbreak and unlock, don’t update your device - 3G and 3G(S) owners should pay particular attention to this warning.
PwnageTool and redsn0w are not yet compatible with 3.1.3
Experimenters show that the latest version of redsn0w 0.9.2 is able to jailbreak iPhone 2G, iPhone 3G and iPod touch 1G. Just point it at the 3.1.2 IPSW (download here) after doing update or restore to firmware 3.1.3. Sounds like DevTeam will release an updated version of redsn0w that will handle firmware 3.1.3 officially. They say iPod touch 2G with firmware 3.1.3 is also jailbreakable.
Users report that unlock software, blacksn0w and ultrasn0w, doesn;t work with the new baseband.
