Retina MacBook Pro Users Still Complaining of Image Persistence

Back in late June,early purchasers of Apple's Retina MacBook Pro reported on the image persistence caused by some production issues. Having used a device for a certain period of time, they noticed its screen became vaguely and left traces of previous images.

Apple replaced the defective devices. DisplayMate’s Ray Soneira has mentioned the persistence was caused by early production issue, but three months later, users still complain of the released product’s “ghosting” issue. A lot of messages were posted on MacRumors' forums and at Apple Support Communities which are largely reported on the issues related to the LG displays and experienced by the manufacturer. Samsung Displays were not affected by the issue.

Upcoming OS X Mountain Lion version may solve laptop battery life woes

The unscientific test carried out by The Mac Observer claims to show significant boost in MacBook battery life using a new developer build 12C35 of OS X Mountain Lion, with the latest beta showing an 85-minute increase from the current 10.8.1.

Using OS X 10.6.8 Snow Leopard as a baseline, the compiled test data showed a significant hit to battery performance with the introductions of 10.7 Lion and 10.8 Mountain Lion. Upon release, Lion lost over 40 minutes of battery life and took three revisions to regain Snow Leopard power efficiency. In contrast, Mountain Lion saw a huge 105 minute loss in battery performance when it was released in July, with the latest 10.8.1 version moving the OS only 30 minutes closer to baseline.

Apple Issues Invitations for Media Event on September 12

The Loop reports that Apple on Tuesday sent out invitations for an upcoming media event scheduled for next week Wednesday, September 12. The event will be held at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco and begins at 10:00 AM Pacific / 1:00 PM Eastern. The tagline on the invitation is simply "It's almost here."

Delays In Components Forced Apple Into A Tight Product Release Schedule

Analyst from KGI Securities Ming-Chi Kuo has published a new research sharing his expectations on Apple’s product releases for the 2012. He notes that delays in some components have forced the company in a tight timeline which may impact product sales in the short term. These delays have affected several Apple’s products, including the updated iMac and rumored iPad mini.

The production timeline could point to a fall debut for the rumored 13-inch Retina display-packing MacBook Pro.

Apple Hits New Highs as Tim Cook Celebrates One Year as CEO

On August 24 one year ago Steve Jobs stepped down from the Apple’s CEO post which he held for more a decade and Tim Cook took over the company’s management. After the announcement, Apple's stock dropped more than 5% in after hours to $351.

But now Apple is the most valuable publicly-traded company in the world. Its current share price is $668, gaining more than 75% year-over-year. With Cook in charge, Apple released the iPhone 4S, the new iPad, the Retina MacBook Pro, Mountain Lion and previewed the next version of iOS.

Mountain Lion OS X 10.8.1 Increases Battery Life In Some Degree

This month Arstechnica reported that many users had faced a considerable drop in battery life after installing OS X 10.8 version.

“Ars writer Chris Foresman, after extended testing, discovered that the battery life of his Retina MacBook Pro review unit dropped 38% from its previous 8-hours”.

Apple's new mini Dock Connector to feature 9-pin

A mini Dock Connector expected to be introduced alongside Apple's so-called iPhone 5 next month will spot 9 official points of contact and takes design cues from the company's patented MagSafe adapters. According to people familiar with the matter, new mini Dock Connector will deliver enhancements in I/O connectivity in addition to comprising roughly 60% less real estate and orientation independence when plugged into any one of Apple's future iOS devices.

13-Inch Retina MacBook Pro Once Again Shows Up in Benchmarks

A month ago Geekbench posted results of the benchmark tests with the presence of a "MacBookPro10,2" entry in database, suggesting that a 13-inch version of the Retina MacBook Pro is indeed in the works. As far as you know, the newest 15-inch Retina MacBook Pro carries a "MacBookPro10,1" identifier.

OS X Mountain Lion may be degrading battery life

Ars Technica carried out a number of tests showing that Apple's new operating system OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion is draining batteries significantly faster than the previous OS X Lion. The test unit lost some 38 percent of runtime after having installed Mountain Lion. The test was conducted a number of times, each using the same applications under what was described as a "daily workload." Being used actively were Safari, Chrome, Twitter, iChat, TextEdit, Photoshop, Mail and Outlook.

Apple Temporarily Stopped iCloud Password Resets Over The Phone

Apple's next iPhone rumored with 8-pin dock connector, enhanced Bluetooth

iLounge reported yesterday that the expected smaller dock connector in Apple's next iPhone will be an 8-pin design. Moreover, iOS 6 will receive a new Bluetooth 4.0 to improve share functionality between Apple’s devices. But these rumors contradict earlier reports claiming that  the new dock on Apple's next iPhone will be a 19-pin design.

OS X Mountain Lion Already Accounting for 3% of Mac Traffic

The analytics firm Chitika reports that just over 48 hours after launch, OS X Mountain Lion is already accounting for over 3% of web traffic coming from the Mac platform.

“Moreover, based on Apple’s June 2012 announcement that there are currently 66 million Mac users in the wild, we can infer that 2.11 million Mac users downloaded OS X Mountain Lion in the past 48 hours,” Chitika said. “Using this figure, if we assume that 90 percent of these users paid to upgrade, OS X Mountain Lion generated $38 million in revenue for Apple in the past 48 hours.”

iWork, iPhoto, iMovie & Aperture receive updates for Apple's Mountain Lion
