Safari 5.1 Gets “Do Not Track” On OS X Lion

safari

According to The Wall Street Journal, Apple has added a “do-not-track” option in the latest developer build of OS X Lion to prevent advertisers and other web companies from tracking you online.

Apple Inc. has added a do-not-track privacy tool to a test version of its latest Web browser for keeping peoples’ online activities from being monitored by marketers. The tool is included within the latest test release of Lion, a new version of Apple’s Mac OS X operating system that’s currently available only to developers. The final version of the operating system is scheduled to be released to the public this summer. Mentions of the do-not-track feature in Apple’s Safari browser began to appear recently in online discussion forums and on Twitter.

This “do-not-track” option was originally offered by the FTC and was already built in Internet Explorer 9 and Firefox 4. The option may be enabled or disabled by a user at any time.

Cloud-based iOS 5 Coming this Fall

cloud-based ios5

TechCruch’s sources report that the release of iOS 5 was pushed back to fall. But the preview of software is expected to be introduced at the WWDC in June. The rumor is interesting because it breaks Apple’s usual release cycle. In last years Apple previewed a new version of iOS in March or April and released it by the WWDC. But not this time. The iOS 5 launch is also likely to coincide with the release of the iPad 3.

The forthcoming major revamp of iOS may bring the cloud-based operating system with rumored music “locker” service. There is also a fall launch aim for this, during Apple’s annual music-themed event. One of the new cloud service elements is likely a location service that focuses on finding friends and family members. iOS 5 is also rumored to introduce a new UI, a new notification system, direct OS X integration.

Manuals on Amazon Suggest Late July Launch for Lion

lionamazon

The  Amazon UK website placed several manuals for the upcoming Mac OS X 10.7 Lion  that will be released late in July. That fact might suggest that the operating system will also launch around that time. It seems that the OS will be released right after WWDC, this year expected to be from July 5 to July 9. The cover of one of the Mac OS X Lion manuals makes reference to the already announced Launchpad and Mission Control features but also references the dock, most of which was demonstrated last year at the Lion announcement. Noteworthy to say that the release date of these guidebooks is a good indication of product launches. For example, Amazon information predicted the release date Microsoft Office 2011 for Mac.

Apple Is Revamping Notification System For iOS

ios_notifications

Cult of Mac reports that Apple is working on a new notification system for iOS.

Apple’s pop-up notification system for new text messages, voicemails and the like has often been criticized as one of the weakest parts of the iOS. Notifications are intrusive, modal and often cryptic. It’s a mess.

And to build new technology into the operating system, the company is going to acquire a small iOS development firm that currently offers a notification system in the App Store. Cult of Mac suggests that it might be Boxcar, which offers an iOS application providing push notifications for a variety of services.
