LTE iPhone in 2012 with "materially improved user interface"

iphone-5-lte

Scott Sutherland of Wedbush Securities issued updated projections for Apple predicting that the company would release an LTE device with an improved user interface in 2012. Barrons reports:

Sutherland expects the newest iPhone to debut in October, along with "an iPhone targeting emerging markets and an LTE iPhone in 2012 with a "materially improved user interface," without explaining any further. The iPad's competitors, moreover, will continue to struggle, he writes.

While Apple has made some improvements with its notifications center to iOS 5, the iPhone's basic interface has remained the same since the introduction of iOS. We doubt that 'material' improvements to the iPhone's operating system interface will be released anytime soon.

iPhone Users Demonstrate Strong Loyalty with Planned Retention Rate of 89%

smartphone_retention_rate

Investment research firm UBS conducted a study of 515 iPhone and Android users in order to judge consumer loyalty based on whether they plan to make their next purchase from the same manufacturer as their current handset. 89% of iPhone users report that they will purchase another iPhone. For other vendors such percent is falling rapidly. The second place was taken by HTC with 39% and the third one – by Samsung with 28%. Android phones in general are at 55 percent. 31% of Android users plan to switch to iPhone. Only 33% of current BlackBerry users planning to purchase another BlackBerry, down from 62% a year and a half ago. In overall 50% users of smartphone plan to move to Apple and only 10% of iPhone users prefer to stitch from Apple. The survey may not be terribly accurate due to a small sample size, but it helps understand market trends, demonstrating high loyalty of iPhone users.

Apple to Release a White iPod Touch with Minor Changes in October

whiteipodtouch

Expecting the Apple’s annual fall press conference, most of the rumors, related to the iPhone and iPod touch, were focused on the next iPhone revision, but we heard very little information about the next-gen iPod touch.  MacRumors has obtained information indicating that the next iPod touch would be little changed. An oleophobic coating for the display and a revised ambient light sensor will be the main differences from the current generation iPod touch. New iPod touch screens could be installed onto the existing fourth-generation iPod touches. Apple is also expected to introduce white model of the device. Leaked white parts for the iPod touched started appearing on different websites in July, suggesting that Apple was working on the white model of the iPod touch. The new models are expected to be announced alongside the iPhone in the first week of October with availability in the middle of the month.

Photo: iPhone 5 will have A5 processor and 1430 mAh battery

Apple-iPhone-A5-chipset

The photo above was posted on Chinese site Weibo. It shows what is thought to be components of Apple’s yet to be released next-gen iPhone 5 or iPhone 4S.

We can see the already familiar to us Apple dual core "A5" CPU, just like in iPad 2. However the chipset is not from an iPad 2 since it looks rather different. The layout looks more like the current iPhone 4′s A4 chipset. The visible part of the battery reads “430 mAh”, which leads us to believe that next iPhone will have 1430 mAh battery, which is slightly better than the iPhone 4′s 1420 mAh battery.

Unfortunately there is no proof this photo is real. One more reason to be skeptical - the photo is quite blur, while we can see A5 very well. What do you think, Fake or not?

Take a look at more comparison pictures:

RedSn0w 0.9.9b1: Major Update to Jailbreak Utility

redsn0w-099b1 redsn0w-099b1-extra

MuscleNerd has announced via Twitter that jailbreak utility RedSn0w 0.9.9b1 is released with major update and numerous new features:

Major improvements and features added to redsn0w 0.9.9b1! See update #9 at http://is.gd/6eek4Y Feedback: @redsn0w_testers

Indeed the list of new features is quite high. There are two main ones:

  • There is no need to download firmware any more. There is no need to push Browse IPWS button any more (but you still can).
  • Developers added lots of functionality to work with SHSH keys (extract, submit, download, verify, stitch etc)

However this new version does not bring features like untethered jailbreak for iOS 4.3.5 or iOS 5.

Due to some possible bugs we still recommend to use the old RedSn0w 0.9.8b7b, but the new 0.9.9b1 is worth seeing and playing with.

Here are links to our RedSn0w 0.9.8b7b iOS 4.3.5 jailbreak tutorials:

You can download RedSn0w 0.9.9b1 here:

Here is the full list of features from DevTeam:

RedSn0w jailbreak utility will have a major update soon

MuscleNerd, hacker from DevTeam, has announced via Twitter that a major update to RedSn0w is coming soon.

There will be no need to select an IPSW. Rather than requiring ipsw selection, RedSn0w will now automatically fetch the important pieces directly from Apple (and caches them so that it never needs to re-fetch them again). New version also brings the ability to save and submit SHSH Blobs to Cydia.

Will be pushing out a major redsn0w feature upgrade before my trip to Korea: http://is.gd/PMAdT1 (and look, no IPSW selection button!)

The new version of RedSn0w is expected to be released on Monday.

Check out the screenshots below:

iPhone 5 Screen Protectors Show Elongated Home Button Area

screen protector

Unwire.hk has posted first photos of a screen protector that has been designed for the iPhone 5, suggesting the elongated home button.

A second shot shows how much bigger the screen protector is than the current generation iPhone 4.

screen protector2

Despite we have seen different cases for the next-generation iPhone, none of them had show a front panel of the device. But we have already heard about the elongated design of the Home button from the leaked designed documents that described areas to be exposed or open to the user. From the image we may see that the hole for the front facing camera was also elongated and camera itself was included in to the hole for the speaker. But we can say for sure that this case is not the accurate image of what the iPhone 5 will look like. Apple is widely expected to release the iPhone 5 in September/October.
