Nokia releases Meego-based N9, looks like previous Apple iPod Nano

nokia-n9

Today Nokia introduced its MeegoOS-powered N9 phone. Well, we all know that Nokia has dropped Meego project and don't plan to support it, but the company decided to release this N9 anyway.

It looks good and quite familiar. There is some similarity with previous generation Apple iPod Nano.

iPhone 5 To Get A Curved Cover Glass?

Samsung Nexus S

Samsung Nexus S

Today DigiTimes reported that Apple may adopt a "curved cover glass" for its iPhone 5.

The publication's industry sources revealed makers of cover glass will reluctantly invest into glass cutting equipment because of the high capital involved. They also told Apple has already purchased approximately 200-300 cutting machines for glass makers. However, the company hasn't yet created a timetable for iPhone 5, as it is still working with suppliers to improve yield rates.

The Incredible Vintage Gadgets That Inspired Apple’s Most Magical Products

braunipod-1

Bill Buxton, Microsoft Research scientist, has been collecting gadgets that influenced today’s technology. A large number of them seem to have directly inspired many of Apple’s most iconic products and innovations. For example, the Dieter Rahms-design transistor radio, which inspired the first four generations of the venerable iPod, upon the success of which Apple built almost all of its modern fortunes.

Photo of Clipless Next-Gen iPod Nano with 1.3 MP Camera Surfaces

ipod nano 7

Taiwanese website Apple.pro posted a photo of what they claim to be a seventh generation iPod nano featuring a 1.3 megapixel rear camera. The photo again clearly shows the camera hole, although there is obviously no camera module included with the case. Interestingly, the new photo shows no clip attached to the rear of the case, with the Apple logo appearing directly on the case itself. Today’s photo seems to confirm previous speculation that, in order to make room for the camera, Apple would have to ditch the clip entirely, although it doesn’t make much sense considering Apple has been heavily touting the iPod nano as a sport accessory that can be worn on the outside of the user's clothing for quick access to device functions.

Next-Generation iPod Nano to Add Rear-Facing Camera

ipod_nano

Taiwanese site Apple.pro reports that the seventh-generation iPod nano presumably set for introduction later this year may retain its current smaller form factor but still add a rear-facing camera once again. The photo above claimed to be the rear case for the next-generation iPod nano with a camera hole in an upper right corner.  The camera seems to take up some space occupied by the battery, so the new device may use a smaller battery or its components could be shifted to accommodate the camera.

Apple investigating 'no-look' gestures for iPod nano

multitouch1

The new patent recently revealed by Apple tells us that the company is looking into multi-touch gestures that can be performed without looking at a device, which would address concerns about the multi-touch redesign of the sixth-generation iPod nano.

Wall Street analysts report Apple develops new iPhones

iphonenano-concepts

Shaw Wu, who is an analyst at Kaufman Bros., said yesterday he has information that Apple develops new models of iPhones, which have both smaller and larger touch screens. According to his sources close to Apple's supply chain overseas new products will most probably appear next year and support such carriers as Sprint, T-Mobile and Verizon.

"Our sources believe these likely represent new high-end and low-end iPhone models to complement its current iPhone 4. One possibility we are picking up is a "mini" or "nano" iPhone with a smaller candybar form factor leveraging technology in its new mini touchscreen iPod nano."

iWatch! New straps for iPod nano by Incipio

nano6g_linq_mainbanner

Hooray! Incipio has released a real case and watch strap (Ling) for iPod nano iWatch! Now we can certainly say that this new offer will be sold with a great speed.

PR managers of Incipio admit that these straps are the best. Well, we need only to know their price ... but so far we've noticed only the following message: "Incipio offers new and unique design of straps for iPod nano iWatch. They are made of advanced polymer materials and are quite comfortable in use ...".

Thus, we can only hope that their price won't be pretty high for those users who are ready to buy one of them.

iLoveHandles turns nano iPods into oversized watches

iwatch

What happens when Apple introduces a square-shaped new iPod and adorns it with an analog watch face for a lock screen? A whole new cottage industry sprouts up, whereby entrepreneurial types dust off old and mostly worthless watch straps, cut out an iPod nano-shaped compartment in them, and charge you $19.99 for the privilege of turning your tiny PMP into a somewhat bulky wristwatch. The saddest part about this is that we've got a feeling they might be on to a winner here.

New nanos connect to TV’s… for slideshows

tv

A fairly unknown feature about the new iPod nano is its ability to connect to a TV via composite cables for photo slideshow viewing on the big screen. As the diagram below displays, it’s quite simple.

Once you’re all connected, set your TV to the right source setting and start viewing your awesome pics. No flicks, unfortunately.

CNet Video: First Look at iPod Nano 6G

CNet shows the new iPod Nano 6th generation:

The good: The iPod Nano (sixth generation) is nearly half the size of the previous model, uses unique multitouch screen navigation, and includes a built-in clip.

The bad: Many features have disappeared, including video playback, camcorder, microphone, speaker, games, calendar, contacts, notes, and alarm clock. The touch-screen interface is overkill, requiring more attention than the time-tested click wheel design without delivering many practical benefits.

The bottom line: The sixth generation of the iPod Nano is the smallest yet, but it comes at the expense of valuable features and practical controls.

iPod nano not iPod OS, not iOS, something new?

ipodnano2

Is it possible the new iPod nano isn’t running iOS, but isn’t running the old iPod OS, either? The latest firmware has hit Apple’s servers so developers are tearing into it and here’s what Steven Troughton-Smith had to say on Twitter: The nano codename is N20 it appears; also labelled as “1.0″ of the OS. Definitely not iOS. Rusty Mercury also says it’s running on a Samsung S5L8723, a step up from the previous Samsung 8730.

So what is this OS 1.0? something new? Something hybrid?
