Apple to kill Ping with next major iTunes release

Ping

According to sources close to the matter Apple will reportedly kill off the Ping iTunes service when the next iteration of iTunes rolls out alongside iOS 6 this fall, reports All Things D. The social music network has suffered waning participation since its introduction in 2010.

Tim Cook confirms updated Mac Pro coming in 2013

MacPro

Apple confirmed that its CEO Tim Cook sent an e-mail to a Facebook group page dedicated to the Mac Pro on Monday and said that the company is indeed "working on something really great" for 2013, allaying current Mac Pro owners' fears that the desktop has reached its end of life.

The slightly updated Mac Pro presented by Apple at WWDC on Monday wasn't the significant revamp. Apple wants to reduce Bluetooth power consumption in portable devices

patent

Apple is still interested in improving Bluetooth power consumption in its portable devices when converting streaming media to a compatible format. This week AppleInsider discovered a patent application filed in December of 2008. The application is entitled "Data Format Conversion for Electronic Devices" and notes that converting data to a new format can be a power-hungry process.

"The format conversion performed by the portable electronic device may quickly drain the energy stored in its battery," Apple's filing reads. "Therefore, it would be desirable to provide an energy-efficient technique for converting data to a Bluetooth-compatible format."
