If you can get past the sight of Windows 3.11 (gack...) and Windows 95 (hurl!) running on an iPad, then hit the play button in the YouTube embed above and be prepared to be visually and audibly assaulted (by no less than Metallica).
As you may know, few days ago Apple had released a new version of iOS for all its mobile devices except first-generation iPhone and iPod touch, so owners of the latter are still not protected from a security flaw that allows hackers to obtain a remote control of their handsets. In fact, the latest compatible version for them is currently iOS 3.1.3.
But Saurik (who is known as a developer of Cydia) recently announced on the Dev-Team blog that he released a PDF patch that is compatible with any iOS version down to 2.x. It can be found in Cydia if you'll search for "PDF Patch". After installing it you can check if the patch is working properly with visiting jailbreakme.com page. After sliding the box to jailbreak you should only see the star background (and not a dialog box), which means you are no longer vulnerable. Read the rest of this entry »
As you may know, this week Apple removed Chatroulette’s clone app iChatr from the AppStore because "users were exposing themselves" and it was a part of the company's anti-porn stance.
Now we have information that DLP Mobile's app, which simply represents an idea of mirror for the iPhone 4, was also rejected because the screenshots that were submitted along with it were considered as "obscene, pornographic, or defamatory" (referring to Section 3.318 from the iPhone Developer Program Licence Agreement). Online advertising network Chitika published some statistics of what version of iOS is installed on users' iPhones. The results are quite interesting and predictable. The latest iPhone mobile operating system, iOS 4, is already accounting for one-half of all iPhone web traffic. These numbers are based on a statistically useful nine million iPhone page impressions.
Looking more deeply, iOS 4.0 – the version released on June 21st – has 44.5%. The latest version iOS 4.0.1 clocks in at only 5% of the market. This is understandable, since it was released less than a week ago:
MuscleNerd, famous hacker from DevTeam, has announced via Twitter that an upcoming comex release will jailbreak all 4.0 devices. This will include latest iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, new iPod Touch and iPad.
jailbreak for all devices at 4.0 is already handled by upcoming @comex release so, good time for iphone4 unlock stuff
Comex is also well-known, he authored the 3.1.2 and 3.1.3 jailbreak called Spirit. He's also recently demonstrated Frash, an upcoming release of Flash for the iPhone and iPad.
iPhone 2G and iPod touch 1G do not officially support iOS 4. However there is a project called WhiteD00r that aims to bring iOS 4 functionality to iPhone 2G users with a custom firmware bundle.
This bundle is created by Matteo Morando and is based on firmware 3.1.3. It is built with PwnageTool. It incorporates several utilities to adds iOS 4 features such as multitasking, wallpaper, tethering, sms count, and more.
There are 3 different versions - Lite and Full for iPhone 2G and one for iPod touch 1G. Here is the complete feature list:
iH8Sn0w has successfully performed a tethered jailbreak for iPhone 3GS with new firmware iOS 4 and the new bootrom. Unfortunately this jailbreak requires users to have 3.1.2 SHSH blobs saved.
Alright... If anyone has their 3.1.2 SHSH blobs, NOT 3.1.3. Then I'll see if I can produce a tool that will do this job...
Here is a video demo posted by AKinGdom1:
The utility will be available soon. Might be as soon as tomorrow.
Good news from DevTeam. They just announced via twitter that unlock for firmwares 3.1.3 and 4.0 is ready:
RT @MuscleNerd: ultrasn0w tips: 1) Works for all basebands since 3.0 FW 2) Remember to disable 3G on T-Mobile USA
ultrasn0w 0.93 released! Cydia repo is repo666.ultrasn0w.com. Works with basebands 04.26.08 thru 05.13.04
This means, that all users with basebands 04.26.08, 05.11.07, 05.12.01 and 05.13.04 can use ultrasn0w 0.93.
There is no jailbreak for just released iOS4, so you need to wait a bit. Firmware 3.1.3 who need unlock can update ultrasn0w and use their iPhones with any carrier.

We know how the new iPhone 4 compares to the iPhone 3GS. Now it is time to size it against its fiercest competitors from all the major platforms. Take a look at the results against the HTC EVO 4G, Nokia N8, Palm Pre Plus and HTC HD2:
