DevTeam released tethered jailbreak for iOS 4.3.4

redsn0w-098b3

The iPhone Dev-Team has released RedSn0w 0.9.8b3 which can perform a tethered jailbreak on iOS 4.3.4. This means that you will have to connect your device to a computer and run redsn0w each time you restart.

For the convenience of kernel hackers like @comex and @i0n1c, we have a new redsn0w 0.9.8b3 that supports a TETHERED jailbreak for iOS 4.3.4 on all devices that have 4.3.4 except the iPad2. The vast majority of people will want to stay back at 4.3.3 because that's where the untethered jailbreak is! There are no new features in 4.3.4 - only fixes for jailbreak exploits.

Also, this is a good time to remind everyone (since we're still seeing confusion about this): iPad2 owners with a baseband (3G or CDMA) cannot currently use saved blobs to go back to 4.3.3 once the signing window is closed. This is unlike every other device, so don't be confused! iPad2 owners with basebands should stay away from all updates to maintain your jailbreak!

This jailbreak works with iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPad 1, iPod Touch 3G and iPod Touch 4G. It does not work with iPad 2.

You can download RedSn0w 0.9.8b3 from here: (Mac, Windows)

Apple users buying 61% more apps, paying 14% more per app

apps download

Fortune has published a report by Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster related to the performance of the App Store. Munster claims that iOS device owners have downloaded more applications in 2011; moreover such applications are more expensive comparing with the average price for an application in 2010.

- More apps: The average iOS device owner will download 83 apps in 2011 vs. 51 in 2010, a 61% increase year over year. "Smartphone users are showing an increasing appetite to use apps to add features to their phones," Munster writes, "and iOS has the leading app ecosystem."

- More expensive apps: The ASP (average selling price) per app is rebounding. ASPs are up 14% y/y in 2011 vs. an 18% decline in 2010. "After the initial race to the bottom in App Store pricing," says Munster, "we are seeing users pay up to add features and games to their iOS devices."

82% of downloads from the App Store are free applications, the rest 18% are paid ones with an average selling price of $1.44. For 2010 and 2011 the average price of application was increasing that could be caused by the iPad launch. iPad applications in general have higher prices than applications for the iPhone and iPod touch.

iOS 5 features gesture-based control panel that replaces hardware buttons

controls

iOS 5 Beta 3 includes a new floating panel that provides users with access to a variety of hardware controls and gesture-based commands without using an iPad or iPhone’s physical buttons. The panel could also replace hardware controls when they are damaged. To enable the panel, go to Settings->General->Accessibility->AssistiveTouch. That new menu is available for four sections: Home, Device, Gestures and Favorites. In the Settings users can set up custom gestures and play with the built-in ones. The Home tab performs the same function as the Home button, Device tab opens a sub-menu with other controls to increase / decrease volume, lock or rotate the screen, and unlock rotation, while the usage of Favorites and Gestures are not clear yet.
