Release of Microsoft Office app is expected to be in early 2013





Microsoft Office application for iPhone and iPad, expected to start setting on the iOS App Store in early 2013. It offers free preview of documents, but there is subscription for Office required to edit documents. On Wednesday, The Verge revealed details of the software. The "Office Mobile" application will be free distributed, but it requires Microsoft Office account. The Office Mobile application will include Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. With an annual subscription to the Office, the user will be able to edit documents. Office Mobile is also expected on the Google Android platform, although the application will appear on Apple's iOS first.

iPad Resales Increased 700-1000%

Apple looking into hybrid wireless headphones for "active" users

The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office on Thursday published Apple's patent application which was filed in March 2011. The patent, titled "Detachable wireless listening device,” demonstrates a unique set of headphones, designed to withstand the rigors of athletic activity by eliminating the need for cumbersome cords.

Microsoft Office For Mac 2011 Now Supports MacBook Pro Retina Display



Today Microsoft released an updated version of its Office for Mac 2011 that adds support for the Retina display used in the new MacBook Pro.

“We’re happy to announce that Office for Mac 2011 (version 14.2.4) now supports Retina display for Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Text everywhere is incredibly crisp and all key areas of the interface are now sharper than ever”.

More than $60,000 in "computers and personal items" stolen from Steve Jobs' home

The San Jose Mercury News reports that the Palo Alto home of late Apple co-founder Steve Jobs was among the homes which were burglarized last month. Jobs' home on Waverley Street in Palo Alto was burglarized on July 17. Among the items taken were more than $60,000 worth of "computers and personal items." The Jobs home has been undergoing renovation and it is unclear whether the family is currently living in the house while the work is being performed.

Internal Samsung memo shows iPhone caused 'crisis of design'

New documents revealed during the legal battle between Apple and Samsung by Samsung Chief Strategy Officer Justin Denison show that the South Korean electronics giant had a "crisis of design" when the first iPhone launched in 2007. An internal memo telling about a "crisis of design" between the company's products was intended to put Samsung in a positive light became fodder for Apple counsel William Lee and "opened the door" to Apple's questioning.

Aerial Photos of Recent Work at Apple's North Carolina Data Center

Later this month we told you that Apple was already undertaking a minor expansion of its massive data center in Maiden, North Carolina. The company has recently received permits for building “tactical data center.” Now we may show you aerial photos of the site obtained by Wired, demonstrating ongoing installation of solar panels at the 100-acre solar farm across the street from the data center and what appears to be the 4.8-megawatt fuel cell facility behind the data center.

Apple working to improve iPhone autocorrect

The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office published three patent applications filled by Apple and confirming that the company continues to research technologies that would contribute to improved accuracy of the autocorrect feature on the iPhone.

Application No. 12/976834, titled "Combining timing and geometry information for typing correction," describes a process for using keystroke geometry and timing to better detect a user's intended input.  Any typed string could be analyzed for use in either autocorrection or autocompletion.

Apple interested in swappable iPhone camera lenses

Apple offers a new concept of an improved iPhone camera system that would allow users to reconfigure or replace camera lenses. The details of Apple’s new invention were published by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office on Thursday.

The filing notes that as the quality of digital images taken with highly compact devices increases, users seek even more sophisticated features typically only found with high-end digital cameras. Features such as supplementary lenses and filters, optical zoom, and optical image stabilization are not typically found in multifunction devices that include a camera.

Future iPhones could broadcast preferred communication mode, network status

The U.S. Patent and Trademark Offices published on Thursday an Apple patent filing which details a system that could notify other users of preferred methods of communication based on their current network status and relative signal strength. Determining which methods of communication are available, the system simplifies the decision whether to call, text message, FaceTime or iMessage another user.

Apple MacBook Air design patent could disrupt Ultrabook rollouts

The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office issued on Tuesday Apple Design Patent No. D661,296 which covers the asymmetrical wedge-like or so-called "teardrop" shape first introduced in the company's MacBook Air line of computers. Such patent may cause problems for Ultrabook manufactures, replicating the MacBook Air's look.

Despite the fact that the patent describes design details, it gives also schematic illustrations that provide an exhaustive look at how the MacBook Air's body differs from existing thin-and-light PCs.

Apple rockets up Fortune 500 list, still trails HP

Fortune has recently published its annual ratings of the 500 largest corporations in America and placed Apple on the 17th place. That means that the company managed to leap 18 spots from the last year 35th place.

According to Fortune, the iPhone maker's performance in the "Computers, Office Equipment" industry was topped only by Hewlett-Packard, which finished 10th overall. HP's revenue totaled over $127 billion compared to Apple's $108 billion, however the percent of change from 2010 was a stark contrast between the two companies which grew 1 percent and 66 percent, respectively. Apple's profit skyrocketed to nearly $26 billion representing an 85 percent change from 2010, while HP saw negative growth of 19 percent with a little over $7 billion in profits.

Apple And Samsung CEOs To Meet In Court For Patent Dispute Settlement Talks

According to FOSS Patents’ report, Samsung CEO Gee-Sung Choi and Apple CEO Tim Cook and their general counsels will meet at a San Francisco courthouse within the next 90 days for a discussion aimed at resolving long-standing patent dispute. Lucy Koh, the judge presiding over two Apple vs. Samsung cases in California, ordered the companies to comment on their participation in Alternative Dispute Resolution. Geohot Arrested for Marijuana Possession En Route to SXSW

Famous hacker George Hotz (aka Geohot) was arrested and charged with felony marijuana possession while en route to SXSW conference.

Hotz was on his way to give a talk at SXSW, when he had to pass through a border patrol checkpoint in Sierra Blanca. According to a source familiar with the case, Department of Homeland Security officers brought drug dogs to each car. When the dogs barked, Hotz (and his passengers) were pulled over for more searching.
