New Evidence of MacBook Pros To Be Released In Early March

just_macbook

According to AppleInsider, which in turn cited a person familiar with the matter, Apple will introduce its new MacBook Pro lineup in the next two weeks. Such a delay is caused by the design flaw in Intel's Sandy Bridge processors used in the new laptops.

This information supports previous rumor by Danish blog KennethLund.dk, which on Tuesday identified that March, 1st is the release date for new MacBooks. Though both reports point on Wednesday, history shows Apple may slightly move the date of product launch due to unexpected anomalies in the company's supply chain or manufacturing.

Apple reportedly testing three iPhone 5 prototypes

three

A Taiwanese news site reports that Apple is now testing three radically different prototypes of the next iPhone. The first prototype, for business, a Blackberry-like iPhone 5 with a slide-out physical QWERTY keyboard for faster typing. Another iPhone 5 prototype is said to closely resemble the current iPhone 4 with a longer-lasting battery and an 8 megapixel rear camera. If this prototype is released, the iPhone 5 will be to the iPhone 4 what the iPhone 3GS was to the iPhone 3G. Of the third prototype, nothing is known, but it may be the 4-inch iPhone 5 we posted about earlier today.

Rumors on iPhone Nano continue to distract from MWC

mobile_world_congress_2011

Today The U.K.'s Daily Mail also confirmed rumors on iPhone Nano, which is set to be released this summer separately from the iPhone 5. Anonymous sources were cited in the publication to reveal both already known and unknown details on the new device:

  • iPhone Nano will cost $200 without a carrier subsidy or contract;
  • The device will be a third smaller than the iPhone 4;
  • No "Home" button;
  • The handset may be delayed or scrapped.

It was also explained why the new device may be popular.

"Phone users on tighter budgets have been shunning the pricey iPhones in favour of less expernsive models which have Google's popular Android software. Apple will now hope to lure away customers from the likes of Nokia".

Besides that, the publication reported that Apple has been working on new iPhone hardware and software that would allow customers to bypass the carriers and choose a network by themselves directly from the handset.

iphone_nano

As you may remember, this week Bloomberg reported about the fact that Apple is working on a new iPhone with a 2.3" screen. Today this information was also confirmed by the Wall Street Journal.

"One of the people, who saw a prototype of the phone late last year, said the device is intended for sale alongside Apple's existing line. The new device would be about half the size of the iPhone 4, which is the current model. The new phone would be available to carriers at about half the price of the main iPhone repertoire. "

The latter allows to suggest that this summer we'll see iPhone 5 at usual price of $199/$299, discounted iPhone 4 at $99, and iPhone Nano at $49.

Apple Is Revamping Notification System For iOS

ios_notifications

Cult of Mac reports that Apple is working on a new notification system for iOS.

Apple’s pop-up notification system for new text messages, voicemails and the like has often been criticized as one of the weakest parts of the iOS. Notifications are intrusive, modal and often cryptic. It’s a mess.

And to build new technology into the operating system, the company is going to acquire a small iOS development firm that currently offers a notification system in the App Store. Cult of Mac suggests that it might be Boxcar, which offers an iOS application providing push notifications for a variety of services.

Apple plans to sell iPhone Nano for $200 without contract

iphone-nano

New iPhone Nano rumors! Bloomberg is reporting that Apple is working on a smaller, cheaper version of the iPhone. The prototype is about one-third smaller than the iPhone 4. Rumors say it will be sold without any contract for just $200.

This sounds more like a fairy tale. Currently iPhone 4 costs approximately $600 without a contract.

Apple Store may be coming to NYC's Grand Central Terminal

grandcentralterminal

The New York Observer reports that Apple may be looking to build a retail store right in the middle of New York's Grand Central Terminal. Reliable sources tell The Observer that the company hopes to open a store in the transportation and retail hub, though it has yet to begin the long approval process necessary for opening in a city landmark. Obviously, Grand Central Terminal is prime real estate for pretty wealthy shoppers. No information about how long it would take for an Apple Store to get approved and built, is available.

Apple to Eliminate Retail Box Software Inventory

no retail boxes

MacRumors has reported that Apple is planning to eliminate boxed software, which only takes up retail space that could be used for higher profit items such as iPad or iPhone accessories. Apple is going to distribute their software through the Mac App Store, strongly believing that the future of software sales will be digital distribution. But how Apple will deal with software which is not available through the Mac App Store? It's not clear now. Though, the idea of total elimination of boxed software also sounds unreal. Perhaps Apple will replace such software with USB software installers.  It may make more sense; nevertheless, such replacement doesn’t appear to be quick.

futureapplestoresite

First, a fourth retail store in Paris, which will locate in the Carré Sénart shopping and entertainment complex, about 30 miles south of Paris. That store is scheduled to open by November. Second, the existing store in Palo Alto, California (in the picture above), which the company plans to completely demolish and re-build due to some structural problems with the building. The new store will have an arched, all-glass roof set on stone walls. The store will probably be up in 2012.

So the new device’s shell will be made from a carbon fiber that would allow reducing the weight of the second-generation iPad.  Moreover Apple has not yet abandoned the idea of a smaller iPad carrying a 7-inch display, contrary to Steve Jobs saying that 7-inch tablets were dead on arrival, and Apple's suppliers has been asked to manufacture a component that would be used in a 7-inch iPad. About NFC, iLounge mostly quotes the previous Bloomberg report:

Apple plans to unveil second-gen iPad at iOS event next week

ipad2

A new rumor about release of the next-generation iPad hit the web. The rumor claims that Apple is going to announce the new device during a special event which will be held to introduce in-app subscriptions with iOS 4.3 next week. MacNotes.de reported yesterday that the second-generation iPad could be presented as the famous "one more thing" at the end of the event. Moreover, one more thing proving that suggestion is that the iOS 4.3 is currently being tested with developers and has reached the beta 3 status, which may lead to a release of a GM seed next week. Rumors of Apple's second-generation iPad have spread up in recent weeks, as Apple approaches the one-year mark since the device was launched in April 2010.
