iOS Share of Mobile Web Usage Has Fallen 11%

The latest report from NetApplications shows that Apple’s mobile web share has fallen 11% in the last 12 months. The main reason for such fall is probably the mass production of cheap Android smartphones and tablets that become more and more popular in Europe and Asia. Looks like things aren’t so good for the company from Cupertino.

According to survey results released Sunday, iOS' share of Web usage hit an all-time low of 54.9% in August, down 11 percentage points (16.7%) from the 65.9% it held in August 2012. Android, meanwhile, surged to 28.1% from 21% last year, up 7.1 points (34.3%).

Anyway, there’re still some chances for Apple to get out of serious troubles. Yes, I’m now talking about the iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C releases as well as about the two new iPads, which are expected to be unveiled this fall.

Plants vs Zombies 2 gets 25 million downloads

On August 16 PopCap introduced the highly awaited Plants vs Zombies sequel.  Ten days ago it reached the level of sixteen million downloads. Today it was announced that the game was downloaded twenty-five million times. It means that nearly a million copies were downloaded every day.

It is also stated that the number of Plants vs. Zombies 2 downloads is bigger that the total number of  the original Plants vs. Zombies game.

In fact the two games can hardly be compared, as he original one is a paid-app, while the sequel can be downloaded for free from AppStore. The number of Plants vs Zombies 2 downloads is certain to grow once the game is released for Windows 8, Windows Phone 8 and Android platforms, which is expected to happen later this year or next one.

Apple Updates Siri to Make Fun of Google Glass Fans

Apple has updated Siri recently with the ability to give smart responses to those who mock it with a command 'Okay Glass', which is originally used to control Google Glass. From now on, each time Siri hears these two words, it will reply with one of such phrases:

  • "Just so you know, I don't do anything when you blink at me."
  • "Stop trying to strap me to your forehead. It won't work."
  • "I think that glass is half empty."
  • "I'm not Glass. And I'm just fine with that."
  • "Very funny. I mean, not funny "ha-ha," but funny."
  • "Glass? I think you've got the wrong assistant."

If you have nothing better to do, check whether you have the latest version of Siri virtual assistant installed on your device and try to play with it on your own.

Apple will visit Russia to talk about iPhone

TechCrunch reports that Apple executives are visiting Russia to talk about Phone sales.

Although Apple has yet to confirm what iPhone handsets it will launch next, the meetings are a sign of how Apple may be preparing to launch new, possibly cheaper devices, to revisit a market that has seen demand for its products, but also one where it has faced challenges working with carriers, the presence of a crazily-priced grey market and, according to eager distributors, short supply issues that do not meet demand.

Apple will be sending its top executives to have a meeting with retailers in Russia. No details of the topics to be discussed are known.

Instagram Acquires Luma Camera App

Instagram has acquired the Luma Camera application and this is the main reason why it is now removed from the App Store. Such purchase will certainly help to improve the Instagram app itself, since the Luma Camera could have boasted of real-time filters, pinch to zoom feature and video stabilization on top of that. Analysts predict - and this is quite obvious - that we shall see all of the above mentioned features embedded to Instagram very soon.
