Apple 27" Thunderbolt Displays Shipping to Stores

display

MacRumors reports that Apple is shipping its new 27-inch Thunderbolt Display to its retail stores and resellers this week. Early online customer orders are expected to begin shipping on September 15. Apple unveiled this 27-inch LED display in July. The display is the first display that can boast about of the new Thunderbolt I/O technology. The display requires a Mac with a Thunderbolt I/O port. Such Thunderbolt compatibility allows the displays to act as a docking station using a single Thunderbolt cable.

“The Apple Thunderbolt Display is the ultimate docking station for your Mac notebook,” Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing, said when the display was first unveiled. "With just one cable, users can dock with their new display and connect to high performance peripherals, network connections and audio devices.”

The Thunderbolt Display features a built-in FaceTime HD camera, 2.1 speaker system, three USB ports, one Firewire 800 port, one Gigabit Ethernet port, and a second Thunderbolt port to enable daisy chaining, a 16:9 edge-to-edge glass design with an ultra-wide 178 degree viewing angle.

RedSn0w 0.9.8b7b: untethered 4.3.5 jailbreak for iPhone 3GS and full support for iOS 5 Beta 7

redsn0w-098b7b

The iPhone Dev-Team has released RedSn0w 0.9.8b7b to bring two new main features:

  • explicit tethered jailbreak support for iOS 5 Beta 7
  • untethered jailbreak for iPhone 3GS with old bootrom (iOS 4.3.5 or iOS 5 Beta 7)

Musclenerd posted via twitter:

New redsn0w is.gd/6eek4Y explicitly supports iOS5b7 (no need to point at b6 IPSW). Also brings back old-bootrom 3GS goodies.

This is great news for both developers and owners of old bootrom iPhone 3GS's who accidentally updated to iOS 4.3.5.

DevTeam posted:

About 12 hours after we released redsn0w 0.9.8b7 with some improvements for iOS5b6, Apple went and released iOS5b7 (what are the odds of that?!?). Even though that redsn0w could still jailbreak iOS5b7, you needed to point it at the iOS5b6 IPSW to do so. Today’s redsn0w 0.9.8b7b lets you point redsn0w directly at the iOS5b7 IPSW instead.

We’ve also added some overall improvements for old-bootrom 3GS owners (where the 24kpwn exploit applies): on those devices, you can tell redsn0w to untether 4.3.5 and lower, or iOS5b7. Old-bootrom 3GS owners can once again choose custom logos, and/or verbose booting (for the really nerdy iPhone3GS fans out there!). And it allows 4.3.4 or 4.3.5 users to use ultrasn0w again (if they have a compatible baseband).

Last but not least, we fixed some lingering Verizon iPhone4 4.2.10 JB issues.

We will update our tutorials shortly.

You can download RedSn0w 0.9.8b7b here.

Here are links to our RedSn0w 0.9.8b7b iOS 4.3.5 jailbreak tutorials:

DevTeam released RedSn0w 0.9.8b7

redsn0w-098b7

The iPhone Dev-Team recently released RedSn0w 0.9.8b7 which brings explicit support for a tethered 4.3.5 jailbreak as well as new iOS 5.0b6 iPad 1 jailbreak:

Apple updated the iPad1 iOS5b6 IPSW without changing its version number or filename, so we're releasing redsn0w 0.9.8b7 to handle both the original and changed IPSW. We've also added explicit support for a tethered 4.3.5/4.2.10 jailbreak (instead of pointing at the 4.3.4/4.2.9 IPSWs) and fixed a 4.2.10 problem.

You can download RedSn0w 0.9.8b7 here.

Apple blocks SHSH downgrade method in iOS 5

shsh

Apple does not allow users to install iOS version that is older than the latest released version. There is a workaround for this restriction. Users who have saved SHSH blobs using Cydia or TinyUmbrella for particular iOS version and particular iDevice  can restore to this iOS.

According to the iPhone Dev-Team, Apple is now making this process much more difficult with iOS 5. This means that current process will not work with iOS 5. But users who saved 4.x SHSH keys will be able to restore to 4.x.

Legal hardware unlock for iPhone 4 released

geveyultra

Gevey has released a new hardware unlock for iPhone 4 called Gevey Ultra SIM.

The main difference compared to the old Gevey unlock method is that you don't have to dial 112. dialing 112/911 and hanging up is illegal in most countries, now this problem is gone.

Gevey Ultra works with

  • iOS 4.0, 4.1, 4.2.1, 4.3, 4.3.1, 4.3.2, 4.3.3
  • Basebands 01.59, 02.10, 03.10.01, 04.10, 04.10.01

Some sources claim that Gevey Ultra works even with the latest iOS 5 beta 1.

If you have 01.59 baseband you can still use free software ultrasn0w unlock. For everything else - just buy Gevey Ultra for $35 here.

The installation is simple, but requires jailbreak. Good luck iOS 4.3.3 is jailbreakable. See our jailbreak instructions here (Mac OS) and here (Windows).

Take a look at the Gevey Ultra video demo:

iTunes versions older than 10.0 now incompatible with iTunes Store

itunes10

Apple is found not to officially support any more the iTunes Store for older G3 iMacs and any Macs that need to run older versions of iTunes. Apple created a new page for latest version of iTunes Store and redirected older versions to this one, asking customers to install iTunes 10. Though, it is not surprisingly. It seems that the company is not going to support software for those older computers. Otherwise it bothers to make sure that its store is compatible with them. But it is really strange that only the iTunes Store is not compatible; other iTunes services work well (see the shot of iTunes 8.2.1 above).

iAd Gallery Violates Apple’s Own Guidelines

iad gallery
A couple days ago Apple released its own application for showcasing the best iAd advertisements. Noteworthy that iAd Gallery have already caused debates on the Internet about it features set that is rather limited. The Gallery only lets users to browse different iAd campaigns. Simply said, it’s a free iAd collection for iPhone. Dan Frommer at Silicon Alley Insider noted that iAd Gallery may be violating Apple’s own guidelines for iOS apps and should have been rejected by Apple itself. In the 2.13 section of the guidelines, the company explains:

Apps that are primarily marketing materials or advertisements will be rejected.

iAd Gallery indeed is based on marketing materials. The truth is, of course Apple won’t reject its own app even if it violates one of the Guidelines.
