New MacBook Airs To Feature Black Case Option

maс airs

In recent weeks more and more reports have appeared, claiming that Apple is putting final touches to the new MacBook Airs that are expected to be released late June or July. MacRumors has a guess that  the high-end models may come with a black option for the aluminium case.

Over the past week, we’ve received several anonymous tips claiming that at least some models of the next-generation MacBook Air will be be available with a black finish, different from the aluminum case used on the current MacBook Air and most of Apple’s other Macs. The most specific of the claims suggests that a black anodized aluminum case would be available on a top-end MacBook Air model, in much the same way as Apple once offered a high-end black MacBook on top of the standard white offerings.

As for the black colour, Apple already offered black versions of the MacBook a few years. MacRumors also reports that their source close to Apple sent them e-mail, where he said that the  black MacBooks were indeed produced, but didn’t get Steve Jobs’ approval in the end.

Mac mini and Mac Pro Refresh In August

mac-pro

CNET reports that Apple is going to launched revamped Mac Pro and Mac mini in late July or early August. Details, as usual, are unclear, though, according to the previous 9to5Mac reports, the devices may get a smaller, rackmountable design that can hold multiple solid-state-drives

My sources tell me ALL NEW Next-Gen Mac Pros and Mac Minis will launch either end of July first week of August.

The Mac mini models that are now short on supply, will reportedly receive the Thunderbolt technology and Sandy Bridge processor, the same as implemented in  the MacBook Pro and iMac families launched earlier this year. Both devices will have preinstalled Lion software.

August more likely, Sandy Bridge and Thunderbolt on both. NO details for specs or configurations given. DO NOT BUY! WAIT for the new Macs!

Apple Stores May Get New Products Next Wednesday

whatisthat

9to5Mac reports Apple will be holding yet another overnight at their retail stores next Tuesday. It is also known that some stores already got new displays and unknown boxes.

Now that may mean nothing. It is probably that Apple just wants to bring and setup new displays in their stores because of its partnership with Teach for America Foundation. Besides that, lately weekly overnights became the usual thing for Apple.

On the other side Apple may prepare for unveiling new MacBook Airs. Or AirPort Extremes. Or Time Capsules. Or Mac minis. Or Mac Pros.

LASpatent1

This week AppleInsider discovered another Apple's patent application entitled "Dynamic Alerts for Calendar Events", which was recently made public by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. It describes a system that could dynamically alert its users on different occasions based on users' current location.

The system would reportedly use its user's calendar events and GPS in order to determine how much time it will be required for the person to travel to the scheduled event and alert him about that.

Price of MacBook Air refurbs at the Apple Store dropped to $829

refurbishedMBA This Saturday, price of MacBook Air refurbs at the Apple Store dropped. Now, the price of the base model is just $829, which is $30 lower than it was before. There is an opinion that Apple is preparing for refresh by means of clearing some inventory out. It should be noted that there is a big difference between such notions as "used" and "refurbished". The latter is supported by Apple one-year warranty, can hardly be distinguished from a new one and can serve you almost as long as an unused model.

Apple Testing an ARM (A5) Powered MacBook Air

macbook air a5

Japanese blog Macotakara  in its latest story claims that an A5-powered MacBook Air with Thunderbolt I/O is being tested in Apple’s labs. The machine could be manufactured by Quanta Computer, the story has it. The article quotes a source who allegedly saw an early prototype:

According to this source who saw live A5 MacBook Air actually, this test machine performed better than expected. Though it’s not clear which Mac OS X or iOS is pre-installed on this A5 MacBook Air, iOS seems to have difficulty to use features of Thunderbolt without Finder. And even if Mac OS X is installed, developer should spend time to support A5 on Universal Binary Applications. As considering these situation, this A5 MacBook Air seems to be made just for experiment.

This news comes weeks after another rumor claiming that Apple is planning on transitioning from Intel to ARM-based processors on their laptops in the not too distant future. Another major issue is that while ARM processors are more power efficient, they presently offer significantly lower performance than their Intel counterparts.

braunipod-1

Bill Buxton, Microsoft Research scientist, has been collecting gadgets that influenced today’s technology. A large number of them seem to have directly inspired many of Apple’s most iconic products and innovations. University of Delaware Says “Apple Store” Coming On Campus

delaware

The University of Delaware has confirmed that, as part of new campus construction plans, an Apple Store will be located next to the new Bookstore, Starbucks, and other facilities. It’s not clear whether the “store” will be a full-feature retail location, a “mini store”, an authorized reseller, or something else specifically tailored to students. Indeed, several rumors in the past years suggested Apple was planning campus-specific Apple Stores, but the plans were never finalized.

The new iMac does 450 Mb/s WiFi

new imac

HardMac reports that  that the latest iMac family released this week support up to 450 Mbit/sec Wi-Fi. Apple first brought the 450Mbps WiFi features in the 2011 MacBook Pro family, but they haven’t been actively advertising it. Apple changed their Airport card and also installed 3 antennas (instead of 2 before), something indispensable to be able simultaneously to use 3 channels of 150 Mbits/s. Each antenna is capable of a data rate of 150 Mbit/sec. Combined, the three antennas achieve the 450 Mbit/sec speeds using the multiple-input/multiple-output (MIMO) wireless standard.

As noted by AppleInsider, the newest iMacs and MacBook Pros must be running a developer build of Lion to take advantage of the 450 Mbit/sec speeds. And MacRumors notes that in order to actually take advantage of the 450 Mbit/sec speed, you'll need to have a compatible wireless router, such as the latest AirPort Extreme or TimeCapsule.
