FoxconnBrazil

According to a tipster who spoke with MacRumors, Apple may start selling the Brazilian-built iPad 2 soon, because the locally assembled 16-gigabyte iPad 2, which sells for $399 in the U.S., has received the proper certification to go on sale in Brazil.

The Brazil-built iPad 2 units are expected to be available alongside regular units built in China, also by Foxconn. Apple's new third-generation Retina display iPad has apparently not yet received approval for sale, whether assembled in Brazil or China.

Analyst Speculation Points to 2013 for Launch of Apple Television Set

apple_tv

Hong Kong-based research firm CLSA suggests that Apple's much-rumored television set is likely to debut in 2013 rather than the late 2012. CLSA also claims that Foxconn's investment in Sharp is likely to speed up development and launch of an Apple television.

We continue to view Apple TV hardware as a 2013 event.

The timing of Hon Hai/Foxconn's equity stake and partnership with Sharp along with Hon Hai Chairman Terry Gou's separate 46.5% investment in Sharp's Sakai City plant lends further credibility that Apple TV is in the works. This also follows reports that Apple is investing ~$1.3bn in equipment destined for Sharp facilities.

Digitimes now reports that Apple has already started production of slimmer models of the 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Pro. As the report claims, the MacBook Pro line will remain distinct from the MacBook Air line; of course, the first ones will remain more advanced, but will reportedly lose their optical drivers.

The MacBook Pro will no longer have an optical drive enabling thinner designs, the sources indicated. Despite the slim profile, the new devices will feature more advanced specs than the MacBook Air in terms of CPU performance and storage capacity, the sources said.

Accessory Manufacturer Claims 15-Inch MacBook Air Coming in April

macbook_air_open_finger

A Mac accessory maker this week indicated that Apple is "likely" to launch its 15-inch MacBook Air in April. The anonymous source said the thin-and-light notebook would be similar to current MacBook Air models with ports on both sides, no optical drive and no ethernet cable.

The vendor reportedly speculated that the new 15-inch MacBook Air would "effectively (kill) the (MacBook) Pro for the average consumer." They suggested that the new MacBook Air could even replace the 15-inch MacBook Pro, leaving the "Pro" moniker only to Apple's high-end 17-inch model.

iPad 3 prices will remain the same

There were rumors that iPad 3 will cost $70-80 more than iPad 2. Now we have different rumors - 9to5Mac has heard from a reliable source that Apple will keep iPad 3 pricing the same as previous iPads:

We've gotten word that iPad pricing is going to be the same across the board as the current iPad 2 models which should be no big surprise given Apple's history – they rarely raise prices. Even better, some countries with currencies doing better than the US dollar should expect to see marginal drops in prices.

That means that iPad 3 will probably start at $499 for 16G WiFi model. This is not official numbers, but good rumors anyway.
