We already reported that in the second quarter of 2011 Apple had passed Nokia as the world's largest smartphone vendor as measured by shipments. But Nokia still excelled Apple in sales to end user. Digitimes Research now projects that Apple will be a top smartphone vendor of 2011 with nearly 19% of the market at 86.4 million units.
Apple is expected to overtake Nokia as the top ranking vendor in terms of shipment volume in 2011, while Huawei Technologies will enjoy robust growth in shipments enabling the China-based company to close its gap with Sony Ericsson and Motorola.
Apple's smartphone shipments are projected to top 86.4 million units in 2011, up 82% from 47.5 million units in 2010. In contrast, Nokia's smartphone shipments in 2011 will decline to 74.4 million units from over 100 million in 2010, said Luke Lin, analyst for Digitimes Research.
While Apple has already opened Regent Streets and London Covent Garden stores in the center of the city, a proposed development that could house Apple’s store at 100 Cheapside in rich financial district may be disallowed due to violation of neighbors’ rights to sunlight.

A Korean company is currently manufacturing the flash drive for the 8GB iPhone 4, as one of the sources said on Tuesday, refusing to name the company. At present, Apple sources its flash drives from South Korea's Samsung Electronics and Japan's Toshiba.
This was the only case when a bridesmaid put on white clothes, stood behind the bride and nobody had objected.
Renee Armstrong couldn’t get at the wedding’s place and decided to use her white iPad and FaceTime service to attend it virtually. The bridesmaid stood by for the wedding ceremony and managed to get into the wedding’s photos as the groomsman always held the iPad in the public eye.
Maggie Koerth-Baker at Boing Boing has compared the actual Andromeda Galaxy (which is 2.5 million years away from Earth), and the Andromeda Galaxy representation that ships as the default wallpaper in OS X Lion. One of the site readers, David Kaplan, assistant professor of physics at the University of Milwaukee, has noticed that Apple’s Andromeda Galaxy is missing a few stars. Of course, Apple’s representation has been photoshopped and the company removed some stars and galaxies. For example, the professor found out that one of Andromeda’s big satellites (M110 for those keeping track) is completely missing.
Apple has once again altered the Universe according to their whim. They moved/removed many stars, and got rid of a whole galaxy. This is M110, which is one of M31′s [Andromeda's] satellites. The other big satellite, M32, is still there.

9to5mac reports that Apple starts officially selling the iPad 2 in Russia and Ukraine this Friday, May 27. That’s the same day carrier Aircel will start offering the iPhone 4 in India, in what it looks like a day focused around international releases ahead of the WWDC. The Russian iPad 2 sales will begin this Friday through retail chain Re:Store, with MediaMarkt, Beliy Veter Cifrovoi, ION, Technosila and Eldorado also looking to jump on board for the May 27 rollout. Retailers are expecting “unprecedented demand” for the iPad 2, which doesn’t surprise considering the device’s popularity and the lack of Apple’s retail presence in Russia.
Journalist Matt Warman from The Daily Telegraph has recently
"In the PC world, with fewer ways of differentiating HP’s products from our competitors, we became number one. In the tablet world we’re going to become better than number one. We call it number one plus."
Research firms Distimo and Newzoo conducted survey that revealed that there are roughly 63 million gamers on the iOS ecosystem who (individually) download, on average, 2.5 games per month. Games represent half of all apps downloaded across the iOS and Mac App Stores with more than 5 million games downloaded per day – based on the survey that included the US, UK and five other European countries. A clear majority of 4.6 million are downloaded for the iPhone or iPod Touch whilst just over 400,000 are for the iPad and just a sliver for the Mac with 41,000 per day.
According to Best Buy inventory system, the white iPhone 4 will be released on Wednesday, April 27th. That particular screenshot is for the AT&T, GSM model of the white iPhone 4, but a CDMA version is coming, too. Both 16 GB and 32 GB white units have already been shipped to Best Buy locations across the United States, so those models should arrive by Monday or Tuesday ahead of the Wednesday launch. White iPhone 4s have already arrived at phone retailers in the Netherlands and at Vodafone in the UK.
One of Engadget’s reader claims to have purchased a long-awaited white iPhone 4 through Vodafone in the UK. That deal seems to be true because the Vodafone UK's inventory systems were showing the white iPhone 4 as shipping in. The carrier has reportedly been gearing up to receive shipments of the device, but it now appears that the units may in fact be arriving and have slipped out for sale in a few instances.
Engadget reports: “Now, we've secured a few images of a 16GB model from a separate source that has seemingly made its way into the hands of one lucky customer over in Britain.”
Interestingly, the iPhone appears to show a modified proximity sensor, utilizing an open slot over the earpiece instead of the previously-seen fine grating. Remind you that the most most recent rumors claim that the white iPhone 4 will be launched next Wednesday, April 27th.
