Arbitration court can resolve Apple-Motorola patent dispute.
The arbitral court was considering Apple and Google issues which were about the infringement of patents. Bloomberg reported on Friday that details of preliminary discussions were revealed during the court filing. The two companies exchanged proposals in which they proposed a mandatory arbitration trial to reach a licensing agreement.
'iPad mini' will be challengingly thin thanks to 'GF2' technology
Apple’s iPad mini will reportedly so thin and light that production of the device will be a challenge to a company. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo with KGI Securities claims that the smaller iPad will feature industry leading "GF Ditto," otherwise known as GF2, touchscreen technology. The latest monthly data of desktop operating shares from Net Applications shows that total Web usage of Apple's OS X operating system has exceeded Microsoft's Windows Vista. Microsoft's Windows Vista fell in August to 6.15 percent of tracked Web usage. Meanwhile, Apple's latest operating system, OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion, grew to 1.34 percent.

Apple’s tablets are far ahead of their competitors in a market with nearly out of every four tablet computers purchased around the world last quarter were iPads. During the previous quarter Apple sold 17 million iPad 2s and third-generation iPads that made up 69.6% of all tablet shipments, more than seven times that of its closest rival Samsung, which managed to ship 2.254 million Galaxy Tabs. Apple's 44% jump in iPad shipments was nearly enough to boost the Cupertino-based company back to an all-time high of 70% global tablet market share it achieved during the first quarter of 2011, according to research firm iSuppli.

Apple reaches A$2.25M settlement with Australian regulator over 4G iPad
In March the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) accused Apple of falsely advertising its LTE-capable iPad in the country, filling its complaint against the company. Apple was advertising the device as 4G even though it was not compatible with LTE networks in Australia. Last month, Apple acquiesced to complaints and began rebranding its "iPad Wi-Fi + 4G" as the "iPad W-Fi + Cellular."
Apple TV Firmware updated to 5.0.2 (9B830) for 720p and 1080p models
Apple released new iOS firmware for Apple TV 2G and latest Apple TV 3G. The build number is 9B830 and the firmware can be installed via Software Update or by direct download:

We don't see any new features or apps in new 5.0.2 firmware. It is unclear what's new there.
Apple's next iPhone 5 may sport HD-capable front camera
KGI analyst Mingchi Kuo said in a note to investors earlier this week that Apple's sixth-generation iPhone could include a front-facing camera capable of HD resolution. He also believes that Apple could employ a flip-chip (FC) solution for the front-facing camera on the upcoming iPhone so that the camera’s position would be moved to the middle.

Apple Reports 2012 Second Quarter Results
Apple announced the company results for Q2 2012. Apple has $110 billion in cash reserves, which is up from $81.5 billion in September 2011. Apple was also up in every other segment with $18.4 billion in short-term marketable securities (up from $16.1 billion) and long-term marketable securities at $81.6 billion, which is up from $55.6 billion in the previous six-month period ending September 2011.
Here are some interesting numbers that Apple reported for the quarter:
iTunes and App Store:
- $1.9 billion in iTunes revenue (a 35 percent YOY increase)
- 600,000 apps (200,000 iPad specific apps)
iOS devices:
- 365 million iOS device sales
- $22.7 billion in revenue from iPhone and accessories
- 6.6 billion in revenue from iPad and accessories.
- 7.7 million iPod sales
- 94 percent of Fortune 500 and 75 percent of global 500 testing or deploying iPad
iCloud:
- 125 million iCloud users—up 25 million from February
Retail Stores:
- $4.4 billion in retail store revenue, up 8 percent
- 363 Apple Stores
- 826,000 Macs sold in store—half to new customers
- $12.2 million average revenue per-store (up from $9.9 million)
- 85 million visitors to retail—18,000 per store, per week
