Retina Displays Also Coming to Next-Generation iMac

imacs_2011_lion

Joanna Stern from ABC News claims that not only the MacBook Pro family but also the iMac line is set to gain ultra high-resolution "Retina" displays.

The laptop will see the introduction of the “Mac Retina Display,” which is said to have a very high resolution. ABC News has similarly heard from its own sources that both the next MacBook Pro and the iMac would be getting very, very high-resolution displays. Apple refreshed its new iPad with a Retina Display in March.

It seems natural that Apple wants to move all its displays to the retina standard. But, it’s unclear, how Apple will implement the increased resolution given that most Macs already approach Retina resolution at typical viewing distances.

Thinner 15-Inch MacBook Pro Coming with Retina Display and USB 3.0

thin_mbp_15_comparison

Apple's much-rumored 15-inch MacBook Pro will reportedly receive a new design that will be considerably thinner than the existing MacBook Pro due to the removal of the optical drive.

While many have speculated that the new 15-inch MacBook Pro will pickup the design from the late-2010/mid-2011 MacBook Air, sources familiar with the prototype units say that this is untrue. Instead, the new 15-inch MacBook Pro is described as being an ultra-thin version of the current MacBook Pro. Basically, the prototype design is a thinner, yet more robust, version of the late-2008 design. It has no tapering like the MacBook Airs.

Claimed iPhone 5 SIM Card Tray Appears Identical to iPhone 4S

iphone_5_sim_card_tray_1

Parts vendor SW-BOX.com has posted information on a claimed iPhone 5 SIM card tray that it obtained from one of its parts suppliers.

The tray appears essentially identical to the SIM card tray found in the iPhone 4S and 4, and if the part is indeed legitimate it suggests that Apple may retain a similar flat-edged form factor for the forthcoming device. Such a design would be opposed to a tapered or rounded-edge design that would likely require a somewhat curved exterior surface for the tray or at least a thinner tray profile as was seen in earlier iPhone models such as the 3G and 3GS.

One in four iPad purchases are made by first-time Apple owners

ipadnew

The NPD Group has found that about 25 percent of buyers in the U.S. have made the iPad their first-ever Apple product.

"iPad sales are growing much faster than any other Apple product has this soon after launch," said Ben Arnold, director of industry analysis at NPD. "In fact, one-in-five Apple owner households has one— nearly equivalent to the number that own an Apple computer. This demonstrates the appeal of both the new form factor and Apple’s app ecosystem."

A majority of the U.S. households that do have Apple products — 67 percent — own an iPod, and 82 percent of iPod owners polled said the media player was their first Apple product.

When will we see untethered iOS 5.1 jailbreak

Now we have some estimations regarding the release of the iOS 5.1 untethered jailbreak. Pod2g noted that it is at least a month away.

ETA for 5.1 JB: no clue! We're going to set pieces of the puzzle together this week. We could have issues... Could be 1 month maybe 2...

I know 1 month seems long, but it's short to work on a project like this when it's a hobby and you've other things to do as well.

Last week, pod2g reported that the Chronic Dev-Team has all the exploits required to release an untethered jailbreak of iOS 5.1 for all devices, including iPad 3, iPad 2 and iPhone 4S. However it would take some time to put it together into a useable release.
