The iPhone Dev-Team released RedSn0w 0.9.14b2 with improved algorithm for baseband downgrade from the iPad's 06.15 baseband to 05.13 on the iPhone 3GS and iPhone 3G. The 06.15 baseband was used by many users to unlock their device. Now it is possible to to get back true GPS and an ultrasn0w unlock.

Google admits Chrome bug responsible for crashing MacBook Airs

Shortly after release of the updated MacBook Airs, a number of users reported that their machines were frequently crashing. Gizmodo noted this week that the issue was caused by the Chrome browser. One Genius technician said that the problem was "the specific combination of Intel HD 4000 chip + flash + Chrome." Moreover, Google has recently accepted responsibility for a kernel panic issue on Apple's new MacBook Airs. Apple is aware of the issue and planning to release a patch soon.

Apple releases Flashback removal tool

Apple on Friday released version 1.0 of its "Flashback malware removal tool" which will scan a user's computer and erase known iterations of the Trojan that some are calling the worst the Mac platform has ever seen.

About Flashback malware removal tool

  • This Flashback malware removal tool that will remove the most common variants of the Flashback malware.
  • If the Flashback malware is found, a dialog will be presented notifying the user that malware was removed.
  • In some cases, the Flashback malware removal tool may need to restart your computer in order to completely remove the Flashback malware.
  • This update is recommended for all OS X Lion users without Java installed.

600,000 Macs were reported to be infected by Flashback and connected in the botnet, which harvested personal information and web browsing logs from affected machines. The Trojan was first discovered last year and installed itself through the guise of an Adobe Flash installer. This version of the malware is able to install itself automatically after visiting an infected website.

Apple Developing Program To Remove Flashback Trojan Malware

Yesterday Apple issued a support document relating to the Flashback Trojan malware that infects OS X computers. Previously we detailed this malware that infects computers exploiting a Java vulnerability that Apple patched last week. Reportedly this program has affected more than 600,000 Mac computers around the globe.

'Flashback' trojan estimated to have infected 600K Macs worldwide

Russian antivirus company Dr. Web issued a report on Wednesday noting that hundreds of thousands of Macs are infected with the Flashback Trojan, with more than half of them in the U.S. alone. The attack takes advantage of an old Java vulnerability that Apple just patched this week. The malware self-installs after you visit a compromised or malicious webpage.

FireCore Releases Tethered Jailbreak for Apple TV 2 iOS 5.1

FireCore announced today that they have successfully jailbroken the Apple TV 2 with the latest iOS 5.1 (5.0). The jailbreak is tethered which requires the Apple TV to be connected to a Mac/PC when powering it on (each time).

Today we're happy to release new versions of Seas0nPass and aTV Flash (black) that are compatible with latest 5.0 (iOS 5.1) software running on the ATV2.

Teardown of New iPad Reveals Samsung Retina Display

Fixit prefers not to waste time and already got their hands on the new iPad. To disassemble the recently released Apple’s tablet, the teardown experts travelled to Australia where it is officially on sale.

The front panel of the new iPad was removed by using heat, guitar picks as an opening tool, and suction cups. The teardown offers the first conformation of multiply rumours that circulated ahead the release of the new iPad.

Among the details revealed in the teardown:

  • The new Retina display is manufactured by Samsung that is claimed to be the sole supplier of Retina displays for the new iPad;
  • Broadcom BCM4430 Wi-Fi/Bluetooth chip that means the new iPad supports low-power Bluetooth 4.0;
  • A5X system-on-a-chip that was also built by Samsung, and markings on it indicate it was manufactured in the first week of 2012;

Apple reportedly recruiting workers for Israeli R&D center

Hebrew-language newspaper Calcalist now reports that Apple and Anobit, which was acquired by Apple late last year, are actively recruiting workers for the company's research operations in Israel. That goes against the rumors claiming that the downsizing was said to be part of the acquisition, as some of Anobit's employees were no longer needed at the company.

According to the report, Anobit has changed its name to HDC (R&D center in Herzliya). The company's former president, Airel Maislos, is believed to be the new senior executive at Apple's development center.

Apple’s iTunes AppStore has recently reached 25 Billion downloaded apps. Apple has an updated its all time most popular apps list for both iPhone and iPad. There are 4 categories - iPhone apps, iPad apps, Free and Paid.

This list varies from country to country. For example, US AppStore number one apps are: Angry Birds, Facebook, Pages and Angry Birds HD Free, while in Russia - WhatsApp Messenger, Facebook, Angry Birds Seasons HD and Skype iPad.

iPad 3 will probably have A5X processor

WeiPhone site has leaked a photo of an iPad 3 logic board with A5X CPU chip. Previously it was expected that new tablet will feature A6 chip, reports MacRumors.

A date code of "1146" on the A5X indicates that it was manufactured in the 46th week of 2011, which would have corresponded to November 14-20. An "A5X" as a step-wise upgrade to the A5 corresponds with progression of processor part numbers as revealed by BGR in February. At the time the A4 was known to be the S5L8930X, the A5 as the S5L8940X and the new iPad processor as S5L8945X.
