iPhone 5c sales are reaching those of iPhone 5s

Localytics has published a new report that claims San Francisco to be the best selling location for the iPhone 5s while in general the gap between iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c sales is dwindling.

After close to one week of sales, we found that, overall, New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco held the largest market share in the U.S. for iPhone 5s and 5c activations. This is to be expected given the size of their populations. However the real surprise was that San Francisco came in third. Considering San Francisco is actually the 11th largest market in the U.S., its status as a technology haven also, clearly, translates to a culture of early adoption.

We then looked at the distribution of the iPhone 5s and 5c for each of the cities. Again, San Francisco stood out, showing the strongest preference for the 5s over the 5c (85% vs. 15%) among the top 12 major U.S. cities. Philadelphia showed the lowest preference with 72%.

Apple Releases New 'Greetings' Ads for the iPhone 5c

The company from Cupertino has released new 'Greetings' ads to promote its plastic iPhone 5c. On the Apple’s official YouTube channel one can watch either the two separate 30-second clips - Greetings and Greetings Too - or the so-called extended cut, which is one-minute long.

As to the plot of the short video, it is rather simple and reminds Apple’s previous ads. People of various nationalities and speaking different languages use the colorful gadget to communicate and express emotions. The ad looks simple, but still it gently prompts you to buy the new gadget. And this, I believe, is what the advertisement should do - prompt, not persuade.

You can watch the Greetings (extended cut) below. Enjoy!

New York Police Department Encourages People to Update to iOS 7

The New York City Police Department is asking people to upgrade to iOS 7. This is all due to its improved security and, among the rest - due to the ‘Activation Lock’ feature.

According to some police officials, the seventh version of the Apple’s mobile operating system is probably the most protected.

After months of pressure from a global coalition of elected officials and law enforcement agencies, we are pleased that Apple is set to release a new mobile operating system that includes a theft deterrent feature called Activation Lock. This is an important first step towards ending the global epidemic of smartphone theft.

Looks like the new iPhones are really worth purchasing devices.

Apple's A7 Processor is Manufactured by Samsung

Apple’s still working with Samsung - Chipworks has confirmed that the A7 chip used in iPhone 5s is manufactured by the South-Korean company.

We have confirmed through early analysis that the device is fabricated at Samsung’s Foundry and we will confirm process type and node later today as analysis continues. That being said, we suspect we will see Samsungs 28 nm Hi K metal Gate (HKMG) being used. We have observed this same process in the Samsung Exynos Application processor used in the Galaxy S IV. Our engineers will be deprocessing the Apple A7 as soon as they can to confirm this or to provide different information.

One of the Apple’s main rivals is one of its main suppliers.
