Analysts Forecast 17 Million iPhones, 8 Million iPads Sold in Q3

Screen

Apple is expected to post its official financial results for the third quarter 2011 on July 19, but now we may hear different prediction. One of them has been made by the non-Wall Street Apple analysts at the Apple Finance Board. They believe that Apple has sold more than 8 million iPads and 17 million iPhones in the third fiscal quarter of 2011. Wall Street’s analytics claim “the company earned $5.69 per share on sales of $24.67 billion”.  The Finance Board predicts that Apple will post revenue of $26.5 billion.

The June quarter represents the first fiscal quarter in which Apple iPad sales are a factor in the prior-year performance. This factor alone will have an impact on year-over-year revenue growth. iPad unit sales and the resulting revenue were not a factor in the prior-year financial performance comparisons in the December (FQ1) and March (FQ2) quarters.

In Q2 2011 Apple’s revenue was $24.67 billion. The company sold 4.69 million iPads, 18.65 million iPhones and 3.76 million Macs.

Apple will release two new iPhone models in late September

iphone5-iphone4s

According to Business Insider analyst Chris Whitmore reports that Apple plans to release not only the iPhone 5 this fall, but they will also release a cheaper version of the iPhone, the iPhone 4S.

This means that Apple will release a minor update to the iPhone 4, the iPhone 4S, as well as a major update called the iPhone 5.

"With Nokia and RIMM struggling," he writes, "the time is right for Apple to aggressively penetrate the mid range smart-phone market (i.e. $300-500 category) to dramatically expand its [total addressable market] and market share."

As Whitmore sees it, an iPhone 4S that is unlocked, priced around $349, and comes with a pre-paid voice plan would "drive significantly greater penetration" into an addressable market that has grown to include 1.5 billion potential customers in 98 countries, two thirds of whom prefer pre-paid plans.

The rumors about cheaper iPhone have been reports floating around for a long time. It's a pity that Whitmore only offers us his prediction without any evidence or inside knowledge.

Here is a summary of what we have in mind right now:

iPhone 5:

  • 4" screen
  • new design
  • dual core
  • 8MP camera
  • possible dual LED and/or dual camera
  • 64GB
  • 1080p video

iPhone 4S:

  • 3.5"
  • old design
  • single core
  • 5MP camera
  • 4GB Storage
  • 720p video

iCloud Is A Further Evidence Of Releasing Apple Television Late 2012

The recently unveiled iCloud service, which will help to share content between different devices, is seen by a leading analyst as even better evidence that Apple is readying to release a high-definition TV set in late 2012.

On Thursday Gene Munster with Piper Jaffray repeated his long-time stance that Apple is developing its own full-blown television set, instead of just set-top box like the Apple TV.

iCloud to Auto-Resolve Sync Conflicts

syncconflict

John Gruber at Daring Fireball claims that Apple’s iCloud service will be able to solve conflicts with data automatically by determining the correct option. Now MobileMe forces users to solve conflicts themselves. On The Talk Show with Dan Benjamin he’s shared his opinion on how iCloud will deal with sync conflicts:

In iCloud, I believe you will never be presented with [a sync conflict] dialog, no matter how much has changed in one of the instances while it was "offline". The server-side iCloud, when there seemingly is a conflict, will make a decision and it will decide which one is the best (in Apple's terms the "truth"). That is what Steve Jobs means when he says "The Truth is in the Cloud." iTunes will decide which one is right and that's it. iCloud will push that right one to any device that has this account that has a different version.

MobDevTrends

Here is good news for RIM so regularly criticized by Apple: advertisers of mobile devices didn’t forget about the platform and are currently taking a second look on it, which results in rising of dumb phone advertising, stated an advertising network Millennial Media this Wednesday.

This surprising comeback has expressed in 6 percent grew of mobile ads on RIM devices in May, while "feature phones" make up 17 percent of Feature Phone, Smartphone and Connected Devices mix in May, as estimated by Millennial Media. The key to these surprising figures may be in the BlackBerry Curve and BlackBerry Bold 2 taking a place among top five mobile phones using served ads.
