Adobe Photoshop Express for iOS has been updated recently with a bunch of new effects and some other features. So, if you use your iPhone or iPad to take, edit and share high-quality images, grab the opportunity and download the application right now.
Online advertising network Chitika published some statistics of what version of iOS is installed on users' iPhones. The results are quite interesting and predictable. The latest iPhone mobile operating system, iOS 4, is already accounting for one-half of all iPhone web traffic. These numbers are based on a statistically useful nine million iPhone page impressions.
Looking more deeply, iOS 4.0 – the version released on June 21st – has 44.5%. The latest version iOS 4.0.1 clocks in at only 5% of the market. This is understandable, since it was released less than a week ago:
Redsn0w is a cross-platform jailbreaking, unlocking, and customizing tool for iPhone and iPod Touch. New version redsn0w 0.9b3 supports the latest firmware 3.1.2. The most recent release before this one was redsn0w 0.8, which targeted Apple firmware 3.0/3.0.1.
redsn0w 0.9 beta3 supports:
All iPhones and iPod touches except the iPod touch 3G
Windows and Mac OSX (x86)
Apple firmwares 3.0-3.1.2
When it's out of beta, it will support the iPod touch 3G, PPC OSX, and Linux.
If you need a carrier unlock, redsn0w will handle iPhone 2G by itself (by installing the BootNeuter utility). For the iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS use Cydia after you're jailbroken to install ultrasn0w (baseband 04.26) or blacksn0w (baseband 05.11).
If you have a late-model iPhone 3GS, or if you have an iPod touch 2G whose serial number begins with “MC” (newer than week 40 of last year), you can use redsn0w to jailbreak but you are currently restricted to “tethered” rebooting. That means you need to connect your device to a computer each time you boot it - so just try no to reboot.
DevTeam just released PwnageTool 3.1.4. It allows users to jailbreak firmware 3.1.2 on iPhone 2G/3G/3GS and iPod Touch 1G/2G. It also supports OTB iPhone 3GS with firmware 3.1.x. We remind you that if you need unlock, do not update on regular 3.1.x firmware, use Pwnagetool to create custom firmware to preserve old baseband.
Here is a quick howto:
Factory Unlocked iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS: You do not need unlock, just use PwnageTool to create an ipsw and then use this to update and jailbreak your phone.
iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS: if you need unlock, use PwnageTool to create a custom firmware with an old baseband. Then update using created custom firmware and install ultrasw0w via Cydia to unlock.
iPhone 2G: Use PwnageTool to do the magic and then restore with iTunes using your newly created .ipsw.The baseband will be unlocked, the phone jailbroken.
iPod Touch 1G: Use PwnageTool to create a firmware image and restore with that .ipsw using iTunes.
iPod Touch 2G: You must already be jailbroken in order to use PwnageTool. If so, create a firmware image and restore with that .ipsw using iTunes.
Difrnt.com published a tool that might help in the downgrade of firmware 3.1 to 3.0 (or if you’re lucky 3.0.1) using Saurik’s method. In order for his method to work you had to allow Cydia to store your 3Gs SHSH key.
This tool is ONLY for 3Gs iPhones and is NOT a jailbreak method!
Dropbox is a very useful and popular application. It has already received 75,000 downloads. However it requires firmware 3.1 due to the usage of some API's for video upload and download.
Good news for anyone who wanted to test the application Dropbox but was stopped by the firmware compatibility. A new version compatible with 3.0 will be released soon. It has already been sent to Apple and will be available in a few days. We will keep you informed.
You can register and download the application for your desktop computer here (Windows, Mac, and Linux). Here is a link to application in AppStore (firmware 3.1 is required).
The DevTeam has just released Pwnage Tool 3.1-3, the new version of the tool for Mac OS that lets you run the jailbreak on iPhones and iPod Touch with firmware 3.1. The new version adds limited support for iPhone 3GS and iPod Touch 2G. It still works with iPhone 2G (EDGE), iPhone 3G and iPod Touch 1G.
The iPhone 3GS is now supported in PwnageTool 3.1.3,assuming the phone was pwned at 3.0 or 3.0.1 - PwnageTool does not support the 3GS out of the box. If your iPhone 3GS has 3.1 preinstalled and is not Pwned then there is no tested jailbreak solution at the moment.
The iPod 2G is now supported in PwnageTool 3.1.3, assuming the iPod 2G was pwned at 3.0 or 3.0.1 - PwnageTool does not support the iPod 2G with 3.1 software out of the box.
DevTeam released PwnageTool 3.1. This utility will allow users of iPhone 2G, iPhone 3G, iPod Touch to run jailbreaked firmware 3.1. We still recommend staying on firmware 3.0/3.0.1 for as long as possible. The 3.1 firmware is not worth it. But if you really want 3.1. Here are the details:
If you are using a 3G iPhone with ultrasn0w and rely on ultrasn0w to obtain cellular service, then you should only upgrade to 3.1 with a PwnageTool created .ipsw. Never update using Apple's unmodified firmware. Stay away from Apple’s direct updates.
This version of PwnageTool WILL NOT work for the iPhone 3GS and iPod Touch 2G/3G.
PwnageTool WILL work for Original iPhone (1st Generation), Original iPod touch (1st Generation) and the iPhone 3G.
It works only with Mac OS X.
Future releases of PwnageTool and RedSn0w will be soon with more functionality.
Here is per device info:
iPhone 3G (unlocked): This model of iPhone 3G doesn’t have an Service Provider lock (aka factory unlocked) and you are able to put any SIM card into the phone and get service. Your phone is already unlocked so you do not need to worry about baseband updates, simply upgrade to 3.1 using iTunes and then use PwnageTool to create an ipsw and then use this to jailbreak your phone.
iPhone 3G (locked): You need to preserve 3.0 baseband. Create a custom firmware.
iPhone 2G (1st Generation): Use PwnageTool to do the magic and then restore with iTunes using your newly created .ipsw, you don’t need to worry about anything, the baseband will be unlocked, the phone jailbroken.
iPod touch 1G (Original iPod Touch): Use PwnageTool to create a firmware image and restore with that .ipsw using iTunes.
iPod touch 2G: Sorry, no support at this time within PwnageTool, use Redsn0w for an earlier (pre 3.1) firmware release instead.
iPod touch 3G (New iPod Touch): Sorry, no support at this time within PwnageTool.
You can download PwnageTool 3.1 in our utilities page.
These are the first images of a Jailbroken iPhone 3GS. GeoHotz published them in his blog. DevTeam will publish an updated release of the tool only after the release of firmware 3.0.1. The reason is simple: Given that the Firmware 3.0 is full of bugs, it is clear that Apple will release an update soon. If the DevTeam release new tool, Apple will probably be able to block them with the next update. Tomorrow afternoon we will find more details on the official DevTeam blog. By the way firmware 3.0.1 is scheduled to be released in July.
