WWDC 2011 liveblog: iOS 5, OS X Lion, iCloud and more!
Apple Confirms: June 6 Keynote with Steve Jobs To Unveil iOS 5 and iCloud
Yesterday Apple confirmed through the press release that Apple’s CEO Steve Jobs will be on stage at the WWDC keynote on June 6th. While keynote iOS 5, Mac OS X Lion and iCloud, the upcoming cloud service from Apple, will be officially unveiled. Noteworthy to say that it is not clear yet whether the upcoming iCloud will be focused only on music service, or it will be a part of rebranded MobileMe.
Apple CEO Steve Jobs and a team of Apple executives will kick off the company’s annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) with a keynote address on Monday, June 6 at 10:00 a.m. At the keynote, Apple will unveil its next generation software – Lion, the eighth major release of Mac OS X; iOS 5, the next version of Apple’s advanced mobile operating system which powers the iPad, iPhone and iPod touch; and iCloud, Apple’s upcoming cloud services offering.
iPhone 5 Parts Confirm New Camera Flash Position
Yesterday we posted some portion of information about a case design for the “iPhone 5G” that seemed to suggest the next-generation device would relocate the rear-facing camera flash to opposite side of the lens, 9to5mac points to leaked iPhone 5 parts posted by well-sourced website Apple.Pro which indeed show a rear camera lens with no Flash attached. The alleged parts, posted alongside old iPhone 4 camera components, show a redesigned internal front-facing lens, as well as a different rear-facing module lacking the flash part found on the iPhone 4. While it’s impossible to tell any improvements on the cameras from these photos alone, Apple.pro does seem to confirm today’s “crystal case” for the iPhone 5 with a relocated camera flash on the back panel.
Photo of Clipless Next-Gen iPod Nano with 1.3 MP Camera Surfaces
Taiwanese website Apple.pro posted a photo of what they claim to be a seventh generation iPod nano featuring a 1.3 megapixel rear camera. The photo again clearly shows the camera hole, although there is obviously no camera module included with the case. Interestingly, the new photo shows no clip attached to the rear of the case, with the Apple logo appearing directly on the case itself. Today’s photo seems to confirm previous speculation that, in order to make room for the camera, Apple would have to ditch the clip entirely, although it doesn’t make much sense considering Apple has been heavily touting the iPod nano as a sport accessory that can be worn on the outside of the user's clothing for quick access to device functions.
Next iPhone with larger screen revealed
M.I.C. Gadget posts two images of the co-called “iPhone 4S” - an iPhone they’re pretty sure isn’t an iPhone 4, but possibly an updated model that includes a 3.7″ display, and the same proximity sensor as the white iPhone 4. The new display is nearly edge-to-edge. The photos show us the new screen to be slightly taller and slightly wider. If the image is legitimate, it appears to be closer to 3.7 inches than 4 inches. M.I.C. Gadget also speculates that it may have an A5 processor (a prototype model) that game developers are using to build games. Strings in iOS 4.3 revealed that the iPhone was slated to receive the updated processor, and recently a white iPhone was rumored being tested on T-Mobile’s network packing an A5 processor.
BGR got photos of another iPhone prototype that works on T-Mobile
This Saturday Boy Genius Report published photos of a new iPhone prototype with a codename N94 (codename of Verizon iPhone 4 is reportedly N92). The device works "with T-Mobile USA 3G bands" and runs a test version of iOS, as photos reveal Radar and Directory apps, which are accessible only for the company's employees.

White iPhone 4 to Finally Arrive By End of April
Bloomberg reports that Apple will finally deliver the long-awaited white iPhone 4 by the end of April. The publication mentions “three people familiar with the plans”, and claims the device will be available both on AT&T and Verizon in the United States.
The new version will be available from AT&T Inc. and Verizon Wireless by the end of April, said one of the people, who asked not to be identified because the plans aren't public. The release was stalled as Apple resolved manufacturing challenges, including paint that peeled under heat, one person said.
The exact reason why Apple delayed the initial June 2010 release date hasn’t been revealed by the company, but previous speculation suggested problems with the white paint caused the device to take bad photos due to light leaks. The new model obviously may help boost sales of the iPhone 4.
iPhone taking secret pictures of FaceTime users
Some FaceTime users have complained of strange glitch with Apple’s FaceTime platform. iPhone users report that they are seeing photos of themselves that they had never taken on FaceTime when they are trying to video call to another user.
"When one of us is calling the other via FaceTime, an old picture freezes on our screen, while the person receiving the call only sees a black screen," a person using the name "kar0786" wrote on Apple's discussion forums. "It's kind of creepy, because it brought up photos of both of us at work, where I have used FaceTime a few times but he never has."
Apple support advised these users to return factory settings but it didn’t work. One of the users continued experiencing the problem even when Apple had replaced the device with the new one.
