Teardown of New iPad Reveals Samsung Retina Display
Fixit prefers not to waste time and already got their hands on the new iPad. To disassemble the recently released Apple’s tablet, the teardown experts travelled to Australia where it is officially on sale.
The front panel of the new iPad was removed by using heat, guitar picks as an opening tool, and suction cups. The teardown offers the first conformation of multiply rumours that circulated ahead the release of the new iPad.
Among the details revealed in the teardown:
- The new Retina display is manufactured by Samsung that is claimed to be the sole supplier of Retina displays for the new iPad;
- Broadcom BCM4430 Wi-Fi/Bluetooth chip that means the new iPad supports low-power Bluetooth 4.0;
- A5X system-on-a-chip that was also built by Samsung, and markings on it indicate it was manufactured in the first week of 2012;
I0n1c Successfully Jailbreaks iPad 2 with iOS 5.1
Famous hacker I0n1c has just announced the successful jailbreak of iOS 5.1 on the iPad 2. He posted several prove pictures on Twitter.
No details yet, no dates for utilities and etc. No info whether this is jailbreak is untethered or not.
First sample photos from new iPad show dramatic improvement over iPad 2
Vietnamese website Tinh.te claimed on Tuesday to have received an LTE-capable version of Apple's new iPad. And soon there appeared a series of photos made by the third-generation iPad.
Later on Tuesday, a group of photos supposedly taken by the new iPad were posted to the website's forums. It's clear from the images that the new iPad camera is not as good as the 8-megapixel camera on the iPhone 4S, but, when compared to the iPad 2, which had a less-than-1-megapixel resolution, it's a definite step up.

Apple rumored to use 'slim bezel display' for 7.85-inch iPad
Citing sources from Apple's upstream supply chain, DigiTimes reports that Apple will launch a 7.85-inch iPad to compete with smaller tablet models like the Amazon Kindle Fire or Samsung Galaxy Tab. Such tablet will adopt a "slim bezel display," according to a new report.
"Although the 7.85-inch iPads may not adopt Retina displays as in the recently released new iPads, the 7.85-inch model is likely to use IPS/FFS panels from LG Display and probably AU Optronics (AUO)," the report said.
New iPhoto and iMovie apps can be manually copied to the original iPad
Apple doesn't support its new iPhoto app, as well as iMovie, on the original iPad. The reason is obvious - the original iPad doesn’t have a camera. But the apps can be installed manually using Apple's iPhone Configuration Utility. iPhoto and iMovie seem to work well enough on the original iPad, although it lacks speed of the iPad 2 and memory of the newest iPad.
To install iMovie and iPhoto to the original iPad you need:
1. to install Apple's free iPhone Configuration Utility, available at http://www.apple.com/support/iphone/enterprise/
2. to buy the apps in iTunes, they'll be within your Music folder under iTunes/iTunes Media/Mobile Applications.

Apple to reportedly double 'iPad 3' RAM to 1GB
A hacker and iPhone jailbreaker known as "Chronic" suggests that Apple will increase the RAM in its upcoming iPad model. Leaked debug photos purportedly from Apple's third-generation iPad show that the device will sport 1GB of RAM, double the amount of its predecessor iPad 2 that carries 512MB of RAM, the same amount as the iPhone 4.
Leaked debug photos allegedly of Apple's next iPad that surfaced last month showed a line of code that read "vm_page_bootstrap: 244276 free pages and 8396 wired pages." By multiplying the number of free pages by the size of a page (4,096 bytes), the developer deduced that the device would have 1GB of RAM.
Apple Is Working On New Enhanced Smart Cover For iPad 3 And Glass-Backed iPhone 5

iLounge , citing "repeatedly reliable source" , that Apple is working on a new Smart Cover-like case for iPad 3. While the Smart Cover is said to still work with the upcoming iPad, the company is reportedly working on a new iPad 3 case with a front panel similar to Smart Cover and a rear shell ensuring the protection for the entire device.
iPad 3 prices will remain the same
There were rumors that iPad 3 will cost $70-80 more than iPad 2. Now we have different rumors - 9to5Mac has heard from a reliable source that Apple will keep iPad 3 pricing the same as previous iPads:
We've gotten word that iPad pricing is going to be the same across the board as the current iPad 2 models which should be no big surprise given Apple's history – they rarely raise prices. Even better, some countries with currencies doing better than the US dollar should expect to see marginal drops in prices.
That means that iPad 3 will probably start at $499 for 16G WiFi model. This is not official numbers, but good rumors anyway.

New iPad 3 Front Glass Photos Show Black and White Options, Home Button
Last week Chinese microblogging site Sina Weibo published photos of what was claimed to be the front glass and digitizer assembly for the iPad 3. These parts are almost similar to the iPad 2 ones. But there are some minor differences in the ribbon cable that is attached to the component.
Repair Labs has now obtained these parts in both black and white. What might mean that Apple will indeed offer at least some models of the iPad 3 in both colors.
Apple Plans To Release 8 GB iPad 2 Alongside 16 GB And 32 GB iPad 3
DigiTimes that Apple is going to release a new 8 GB iPad 2 alongside the iPad 3 next week, presumably seeking to cut costs to make the model as affordable as possible while differentiating the model from the iPad 3. Apple used similar strategy for the last generations of iPhones, where it has discontinues 16 GB and 32 GB iPhones being updated and introduced an 8 GB iPhone as a low-end option for users.
Apple Issues Invitations for iPad 3 Media Event on March 7
On Tuesday Apple sent out official invitations for the iPad 3 media event which indeed will be held next Wednesday, March 7, in San Francisco. In fact, the invitation itself could even be a picture of the new iPad display. The image does show a very crisp iPad screen that could be a higher resolution than the current iPad 2.
The March 7 event will be held at 10 a.m. Pacific, 1 p.m. Eastern at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco, Calif., the same place the last two iPad unveilings have been held. The invitation features a finger pushing down on an iOS calendar icon with March 7 as the date.
"We have something you really have to see. And touch," the invitation reads.
